New member needing some assistance with an Anniversary Clock

    Greetings!

I'm coming up on my first year anniversary, and with Clocks being the "modern" gift for 1 year, I'm considering buying my wife a nice clock for our mantle. That being said, we're still young and the budget is still tight. For that reason, I'm turning to you, the experts, with some assistance.

I'm looking for a handsome clock (wood/silver metal) for our mantle. Our style is very midcentury, but our budget is turn-of-the-century. Can anybody suggest a QUALITY piece that can be bought for under $100?

Thanks, everybody, for your input and assistance!

Do you want old, mechanical, or new, quartz?

The best thing to do is to find the best clock shop in your area, and go shopping.

Honestly, that doesn't matter too much to me. I've never bought a clock before, so I'm hesitant to just go into a store where the salesperson would be able to charge whatever he wanted for a POS...

I'd rather a mechanical one, but are those easier to break?

Frankly, a $100 budget is very, very confining. I doubt very much that you'll find any decent mechanical clock, worthy of being placed on your mantel, for anything like that price. I've managed to pick some up over time, but all demanded a fair amount of work to get running/looking right, and if you can't do that work yourself, you're looking at several hundred dollars (at least) to get there.

As I said before, I suspect your best bet would be to go to a nice clock store, and see if there's anything there in that ballpark that would interest you.
