Longines Master Collection or Oris Artelier

    Hi,
i know this is a very difficult question and answers are very subjective, but I wanted to give it a try anyway.

If you had the choice between a Master Collection or an Oris Artelier, what would you pick and why?

The fact I post this in the Longines forum will no doubt have an impact.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts

    Yves

It would be helpful if you can mention which particular model from the Master Collection you have your eyes on and likewise for the Artelier.

If left open, I will most definitely pick the Master Collection Retrograde

I would go with the Longines. Love the blue hands.

To begin, the Longines is a chronograph, and the Oris is not. That technical difference should factor into your decision. Do you need a chronograph? That is a nice complication and it is fairly useful, but you will pay more for that both when purchasing and servicing the Longines.

Both watches use ETA movements. Others can compare the relative merits of each better than myself, but overall these are both solid. One nice thing about the Longines movement is that it is based on the 2894 instead of the 7750 which allows that watch to be much thinner than a 7750-based chronograph.

Fit and finish should be comparable. It may boil down to a purely aesthetic decision. Which design sings a sweeter song to you? Do try to see them both in person. It really makes a difference. The watches that I love the most were not purchased without first seeing them. And they all were colors or versions that I had not considered until I saw them.

Longines used to be positioned a notch or two above Oris, and may still be in some parts of the world, but in the last decade Oris has moved up the food chain a bit. It is my opinion that the Swatch group still maintains Longines above Oris, but that is largely marketing, not really through innovation, quality or technical sophistication. Maybe the Longines has a little more polish in the movement... Again, just my opinion. I own a version of the Longines that you are considering, and also an Oris diver. I respect both brands.

Good luck with your decision...that's the fun part anyway.

The master collection is lovely for a more dressy watch.

Havent seen the Oris but see pictures of the Longines and really want one.

Master has the clear case back which is a nice feature.

The longines is second hand whilst the Oris is new. Still the Oris comes in about 300€ cheaper.
i will visit the shop and have a look at both watches before making a decision!

    Thanks for all input!
