    Why Did Longines Do This?

    Hello -

I am interested in this Longines from the Masters Collection: L2.693.4.78.3

Does anyone have any idea why they opted for painted numbers instead of actual numbers? One watch jeweler postulated that is was to keep the cost down...? I'm not sure how I feel about painted on numbers. Thoughts?

I'm not sure how much cost they would save doing that. Maybe its just the look they wanted?
I like it to be honest.

Yep, it's much cheaper to stencil.

Personally that would be a dealbreaker for me.

I love a lt of the masters collection but I agree the painted numerals detract.

it might save cost no doubt, though just a bit, but I do NOT think thats the whole point of painting...actually applied numerals have a different look altogether and Longines might not be lokoing for it...you see, A.Lange and Sohne models have painted dials too, and so do many others that are loo0king for a classic look...another example is the Omega Railmaster..Omega has applied numerals for every model except the Railmaster ( I guess now discontinued auto 39mm version)...why?...to give it a classic look :)...so it has some design consideration too, no doubt, and I seriously think thats the more important consideration in this case..

actually I can think of few blued hands (no lume) watches with applied numerals.

My thought would be that they realised just how hideous the watch would look with applied numbers.

There are plenty of other watches available...

Your post just made me take a look at my watch and its the 2nd day of wearing my MC Moonphase (L2.773)

Just now, I realized the numbers were painted and not applied. I paused for a good two seconds, then was distracted by how beautiful my watch is, its blue hands, precise details and classy looks. Tucked my baby back into my dress shirt (to prevent scuffing at my desk) and back to the forums I go...

Maybe they do not want the 3 D look?
