    Need some advice please

I have recently been restructuring my collection. Over the past 2 months, I have sold 5 watches: 3 casios and 2 orients. The first 4 sales went flawless. The last sale was for this watch SOLD: Orient CEX0R001B0 Black Hellenic The buyer just contacted me and said the watch had a small scratch on the crystal. I did state in the auction that the watch was basically new, which it was. It hasn't been worn. I ended up with a Vintage, FFD0F001B, as my go-to black watch.

He wants to take it to his jeweler and see about a repair. I am very frustrated by this. The crystal was clean, as can be seen by the pictures. As a sign of good faith, I offered him 10% back. Was this a good idea?

Any help and advice from you guys would be appreciated.

    Re: Need some advice please

there are times that a scratch is not able to be seen with the naked eye, and must be seen with a loop

so there is a gray area there

this so called scratch , is it with the naked eye , or is it with a loop

by giving any money back , your admitting something is wrong, if you did nothing wrong why are you giving money back

maybe he scratched it , maybe you did , maybe it was bought new like that ???

It was purchased directly from Orient. With my naked eye, I could not see any scratches on the crystal. I never wore the watch. He is claiming two scratches on the crystal. I figured, which was probably a mistake, that my pictures would be clear enough. He said the scratches are very faint and only visible at certain angles.

I just reread his message. He was going to take it to a jeweler to get the date set.... I just sent him another pm explaining how to set the date on the watch. I offered the money back to just make the problem go away.

I wouldn't have offered any further discount, and if he became too much of a pita, I'd have him return it for a full refund. Some people aren't worth the hassle and dealing with them is just too painful.

i think in many cases , when buying a brand new watch , there are imperfections that are on one and or both sides of the crystal , but you can not see them with the eye , but with a loop x 10 you can see them

i have bought many new watches that this is the case

but if i can't see it with my eye, you can't see it with yours, than hey , nothing to even worry about

perfection is an endagered species , and you are not going to find it in a watch

anyway i understand that sometimes it is easier to go ahead and discount in order to make someone feel better about their complaint , so I understand why you did

i had an issue with selling a watch last week , member kept pressing for a zulu , it was easier for me to eat the $17 for the marartac and give it to him , rather then hear him go on and on , so i gave in

Used watches are sold as is last time I checked. And a new crystal on a orient must be what , $10-15? I wouldn't offer him a thing

    I agree Mr. Kane.

Well, he's on the west coast and I haven't gotten a reply to my offer yet. I am hoping I can resolve this for a few dollars.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll let ya know what happens.
