    Winder Poll

Paralysis by analysis. I'm looking for a new winder. I know that Orbita appears to be the gold standard but I've read some negatives about them as well so they're not certain enough for me to go out and buy one.

The poll is this. Excluding Orbita owners, which winder do you own and how long have you had it working. Also, what winders have you owned in the recent past and how long were they working.

Dual watch winder, made by Diplomat. Had it since February 2011, and have used it daily, quite frequently. Still runs like new. The modules got a bit loose (possibly because of my heavy dive watches) but I wedge a piece of paper between the case and the module, which gives a good, snug fit. I paid about $50 for it and love it, no problems.

I have the Boxy DC-04D quad winder. This winder is made by a Taiwanese company and is re-branded as Heiden and Brookstone in the US. There are already lots of reviews around of the Brookstone branded version, which is exactly the same. I've only had it for a month or two, but so far I've been very happy with it. It's so good in fact that I can't see any reason to spend more than the $200 this cost on a winder. Some key features:
    - Heavy plywood and glass construction, with a brown wood veneer. You can't tell in the photos online, but the veneer has a nice wood grain.
    - Quality Japanese motors with high MTTF. With the cover closed these are basically silent.
    - The rotors are completely independent, each with its own on/off switch, clockwise/counter-clockwise/both switch, and rotations per day settings. This is great because I can store both my auto and manual watches in there and only wind the autos. The settings are flexible enough that you can wind basically any watch just as it should be.
    - The watches go on dense foam pillows that wedge into the rotor assemblies. It's a very simple design that avoids plastic tabs that can break or become loose over time.
    - The entire inside of the cabinet is covered in a black velvet type finish, so the watches sort of 'float' over a black background...looks good!

This is my first winder and since I haven't had it for very long I can't comment on longevity, but you can probably find more about that in all the other Brookstone reviews.

    Hope it helps!

I have 6 Boxy bricks and love them. I had a JomaShop single winder and got rid of it because it was too noisey.

    The bricks are silent!

I have had a Brookstone 2 watch winder for a little over a year and agree with everything Gibraltar says. Great job for the money.

I have a Brookstone Quad Winder. I have had it for only a few months. Works Flawless. Very quite. Way more adjustable than I would ever need. Doubles as a very nice display case.

How much noise does a typical winer make? Maybe give an example to compare it to like a small fan or something.
