    Cool Decorated Or Not?

    Hi Guys,

Couple of days back I met up with my watch buddies and the topic of discussion was, should the movement in our watches be decorated and tuned by the manufacturer, or off the rack movement is perfectly fine.

I was shocked when I got to find out a particular well known brand (happened to be my favorite) has put inside one of their boutique edition a raw undecorated (not even stamped with the brand name) movement.

Question is, should we expect our beloved LW watches with ETA movement be decorated and finished by LW, or does it really matter anyway. (Tried to find the ETA movement pic LW using but none). There will be some personal opinions and preferences but lets try to keep this discussion open and friendly.

P.S. if anyone has a pic of the ETA used in LW, that would be awesome!

    Thanks guys.

    Cheers!

The LW The One movement uses an eta 2892-a2. I have attached a picture of it below.

Cool Thanks For The Input Anna...

Thats a nice expended pic of the ETA movement...Appreciate it...

But what I really mean is whether the movement was decorated and tuned by LW or do they just use an undecorated movement like in the pic...without even bearing the LW logo...?

As we all know, the Spidolite bears the logo of LW and AG logos, as in they are decorated movements...so the question remains, is the ETA movement used decorated?

    Cheers.

    Decorated Or Not?

I've got to say, while I love the case design of LW, I feel for the price they ask there should be something distinctive about the movements, even for the entry level pieces.

    Whooohooo...!!! Jackpot!

Thanks Grandier Bro for the pic. Really appreciate it. Exactly what I am looking for.

My own opinion, I dont mind about using any normal movement but at least theres the maker stamp on the movement...

    Thank for sharing bro.

    Cheers.

I think the bigger issue about the controversy you are alluding to is that the maker is charging a good amount of money for it, on the 2nd hand market the piece shot up to almost $20k at the start and has stabilised around $15k thereabouts now and yet the movement used is the cheapest of the cheap 6497-1 low beat unfinished movements that cost sub $100 when bought in bulk. For a US$4000+ watch (at list) that was re-using the caseset, dial, everything except the caseback and movement, sold through a boutique whereby 100% of proceeds went back to the manufacturer, it just seemed all the more that this company was out to gouge its customers and take them for a ride. And in truth, I've been feeling that way about that company for a very long time.

Back to the topic at hand. I agree that for anything sub $5000 I'm still ok with standard ETA movements with at least some additional manufacturer finishing and at least the higher grades of movements. Anything more, you've really got to sell it to me why.

    Well said brother!

Quite sad that that happened to a well establish brand though NOT ALL of their watches are not properly finished but that one special edition could tarnish the reputation of the brand though not all are mad of what happened (the loyal fans) but there's still some implication arise from this incident.

I knew of a few fans now venturing into other brands which include myself...lol.

    Thanks for the output bro.

    Cheers.

    Re: Decorated Or Not?

    To quote another forum buddy

Personally I don't like the way xxx's going recently, nor I could stand faux aged lume nor re-inventing the older popular models by releasing what could only be described as replicas of their former self.
They've lost their focus I feel. Too many special editions, too many tweaks, too little exclusivity anymore. There are some highlights, but nothing special.

Let's hope LW don't do that and run out too many Hard Black editions. 3 is enough :D

Thats exactly what I shared with one of the bros here that hopefully LW will retain its exclusivity and not going towards the direction of mass production...

Hopefully there'll be no remake of the DLC Okto too...

    Cheers.
