NY Times Article on Omega and it's relationship with China

This is a big surprise to me, especially given that the Chinese produce so many knockoffs. Wonder if Omega will make more smaller watches now (<40mm) since China is driving so much of it's sales. It appears the Chinese favor the constellation series which I'm guessing is because they're sized around 38mm.

Interesting about chinese knock off is they are mainly for export out of China or sold to tourist. The folks who can afford to buy the real deal actually are pretty well off. Thou they are also afraid of getting conned into buying a knock off and thats the reason why they buy either in Hong Kong or in Singapore.

This article has absolutely nothing to do with counterfeit or "knockoff" watches. It's talking about real Swiss watches and real Chinese consumers.

    Peace

I see people wearing knockoffs here in NYC, especially in Chinatown, every single day. Tourists are constantly buying them and most of the Chinese that work in Chinatown wear fakes. But the Chinese who visit from overseas are all wearing Rolex or Omega on their wrists, as are the larger business owners in Chinatown.

It's funny to be in Paris Sandwich buying lunch and having one guy standing next to me with a blatantly fake Omega (take your pick) and then next to him a guy wearing a genuine Submariner or Seamaster.

My best friend went to Hong Kong and Shanghai a few months back and stated he had never seen so many high end watches. Every shop he visited was jammed and no one was spending less than 5 grand.
