Watch SN Database of WUS Omega Forum Members

Hey gang, since I got ten days off and can think of nothing else to do right now, except wash the dishes, get on the PS2, put on the "Glengarry Glen Ross" DVD, read the classified ads, etc, I thought I'd take a walk on the wild side and start up a database for us all to catalogue our beloved Omega watches.
I was thinking we could state model name and number (if you know it), followed by serial number and approx purchase date. If you have the original Warranty Cards that came with the watch, then it should all be real easy.
I'm not sure what the purpose is of this little exercise, but I figured that we may begin to build up an archive of 'year-of-manufacture-cross-referenced-with-serial-numbers' info for future generations of WIS's like us. If you can include model specifics like, for instance, auto or quartz and mid-size or full-sized SMP, then that will refine this database even further. This is primarily for modern Omega watches, since the info required is pretty readily available, but if anybody wants to include older or, even better, vintage watches in this list, then that would be great, since we may be able to get a better idea of when certain Calibres were manufactured.
Who knows, maybe Omega in Bienne will come to the WUS Omega Forum to check production dates, etc.
Since I like livin' on the edge, I may as well start.

Planet Ocean 42mm Serial No. 8093XXXX Purchased Sept '05
Later (May-June 2007) replaced with same model (2201.50.00) Serial No. 8189XXXX

Re: Sticky: WUS Omega Forum Members Watch Database

teeritz, I apologize, but I completely missed this thread. Next time, please feel free to shoot me a PM, if I miss something like this. Considering the published Omega sn database only extends to about ten years ago, I think this is a great idea. I'll make it sticky, now.

The only issue is that the date of purchase doesn't necessarily match the date of production. Still, it's more than what we currently have.

The only modern Omega I have is Speedy

    Speedmaster Professional
    ref.3570.50
    Serial No: 7711xxxx
    Original purchase date: 06/2005

Re: WUS Omega Forum Members Watch Database

No apology necessary. I started it about 8 o'clock one night so I think the rest of the world was asleep. I just thought it would be interesting to see where certain Omega models end up world-wide. It's a little frustrating for me when I get on eBay and see a nice 1950s Seamaster with Serial number listed and the Seller has dated it 4-5 years later than another Seller with a similar model with similar serial number.
    Did that make sense?
Anyway, to prevent such confusion for future generations, I thought a simple database that listed Year of Production (if known) ,Serial number and Purchase Date would be a useful guide. And I agree that the purchase date may not match production date, but, as you say, it's more than what we currently have.
And you've listed the first four numbers of the Serial number, which is probably a good idea anyway.
At any rate, let's see how it goes.
Thanks for making it a Sticky.
    Take care, eric.
