definitely a moonphase for me!!!
definitely a moonphase for me!!!
I wish I was an artist...but I'm not, so bear with me as I try to describe the direction I'd like to see for a contemporary WUS watch. First, to keep costs down: just a three hander, no date...can be automatic or mechanical, no moonphase.
Mix modern, dive and Chinese, perhaps like this:
1) No date white or ivory dial (approx 39mm), approx 41/42mm dive bezel case, with black or silver (lumed) numerals, hands and indices, minute markers/dots *and dial texture pattern* as with this vintage Shanghai (Soviet's A-581 beauty):
2) black dive style rotating bezel with 12 hour white or silver hanzi/Chinese characters instead of arabic numerals:
1 一 yī
2 二 èr
3 三 sān
4 四 sì
5 五 wǔ
6 六 liù
7 七 qī
8 八 bā
9 九 jiǔ
10 十 shí
3) China Made as on the vintage Shanghai
4) Old style Sea-Gull logo where the Shanghai logo is (because Sea-Gull is making the watch)
5) 制造中国天津市 meaning "manufacturing, Tianjin, China where the similar characters are on Soviet's watch, in red as with "to serve the people" watches(or similar more correct and/or appropriate lettering)
6) WatchuSeek where Shanghai is written on Soviet's watch, in black

I voted for the moonphase, but this will not mean that I will not buy another option, if available.
Regards,
Martin

I like Albertatime's ideas with the chinese hour characters, textured dial, and generally chinese writing. Not sure whether it has to be a diver though.
Having a moon phase on there never hurts...
Of the watches actually shown at the top of this thread I like the classic Seagull best.
I voted wuxing + moonphase, but I'm mostly interested in the moon phase. I like the concept of the Wuxing, but I am worried about execution. I also like the idea of a custom contemporary watch, but more details are needed before I can decide if I'd like it over the moonphase.
Dear Comrades,
I am very sorry for not being able to visit CMWF for a while, and as a result, I missed the beginning of this awesome project special to us only! I really love the idea. Thanks a lot hked!
What is in my mind is a 41-42 mm case, 22 mm drilled lugs (For easy strap change): (Windable) auto movement with a hacking feature (I very often either forget to wind the watch or over wind!); day/date/month, day/date or at least date, Moon Phase is ok for me; a professional lume; sapphire crystal on both sides (Display caseback); 2nd time zone (GMT) would be very lovely; as AT mentioned, as much Chinese texts as possible; even though I love black dials when it comes to Chinese watches I somehow favour the white dials; screw down crown is sweet (Not only for water resistance but also to avoid shirts or sweater sleeves' getting stuck and pulling the crown out - Happened to me many times with my non-screw down crowns); may be beside the (Special) serial numbers of the watches, also (Initials) of the owners with title (Example from myself: Capt. S.K.); rose gold or SS is fine; blue hands; WUS CMW SE signed rotor and case back; etc . . . . .
I read some of the previous project pages; however in order not to delay any more I wanted to vote and also give you my thoughts. If these already were discussed, please forgive me.
In short, I am in. I voted for the Moon Phase model, and again, the final design may be a little bit of everything, but whatever the outcome will be, I am sure it will be very much remembrance and special and beautiful!
Very Best Regards . . .
Capt. Serdal

Wow, this is a really tough one. I do have agree with Ron, though. An original design would be amazing. I voted for the moon phase, as that would be my first choice of those options. But the classic or Vintage Wuxing would be amazing as well. I'm not sure abut a modern one, I can find those. A diver just does not feel right for something like this.
Count me in, I'm definitely interested, depending on the final.

(ok, so I'm not that young but try to live like I am...)
Thanks Capt., glad to see you are back and thanks for giving us more ideas!
Almost called you about the fat boy but it was gone the next day :) :)
That's a very comprehensive list of features, Capt. but as Kwan already said, this will make for one very busy (too busy) dial. Plus, combining all these features / complications in one watch will catapult the price well beyond the affordable range we're targeting here. Having said that, I would (also) be interested in the watch you just spec'd.Originally Posted by serdal23
Several have mentioned this already, but for the sake of full disclosure: I too did vote for Moonphase & Wuxing but am most interested in the Moonphase. Wuxing is a distant second.
