    Unhappy Help identifying this Certina

    Hi,
I’m new here so I hope you are going to look over my novice “language”.
I have a Certina watch that I don’t know so much about – I searched over the net after the numbers that are printed on it but could not find any details. So hopefully somebody can help me. It’s a very small watch – the diameter is around 1 cm. The person that sold it said that is an “old fashion” watch BUT I just love it. So really hope somebody have more info on this.
As I said a Certina lady watch with “flexible” bracelet (metal gold colored with the text “Speidel USA” on the back).
On the back of the watch there are2 types of numbers: the first one looks like the manufacturers marking: 0806 883 7068362. The second one looks like a hand writing 64804 85.
On the lateral of the watch on the side with the “key” are 2 inscriptions: “20” and a “KB” into a sign that looks like a horseshoe – sorry for the description…
The gold metal on the watch looks like gold but I’m not sure considering that I don’t see a stamp anywhere.
Hope that somebody can tell more about it.

    Thank you in advance!

    Re: Help identifying this Certina

Looks to be early 50's to mid 60's vintage. 7068362 is likely the individual serial number, 0806 883 is the case and/or model reference number. Certina is a respected brand going (in one form or another) back to the late 1800's. A photo of the movement might help a little; your best bet is to try over in the vintage forum, take your watch to a good watchmaker and have him/her look at it, or email Certina directly. Many watch companies have archives of their previous models and most are happy to help you with info. Pretty little watch!

I don't know anything about vintage Certinas, but the design prompts me to date it a bit later than Sherry's range - I'd say late 1950s to maybe early 1970s. That bezel and general geometric theme reminds me of what Hamilton was doing with its men's watches from about 1962-1970. Could be earlier, but the late 1950s non-conservative styles tended to be "spiky", for lack of a better description (think starbursts and narrow triangles rather than blunt squares/rectangles).

If the bracelet isn't original (I suspect it isn't), I'd suggest ditching it in favor of a smooth or very subtly textured one. Either replace the crystal or give it a good Polywatch scrubbing. The patterned bezel is gorgeous and deserves to be showcased!
