    Ladies Pilot Watches by Abingdon

There is a relatively new line of Pilot watches for women called Abingdon. The line was founded by a female pilot named Chelsea "Juice" Welch. They look very nice and I was thinking of getting one for my wife. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these watches and what your comments are regarding their build quality and durability.

Just did a Google search for the website. I'm not hugely impressed. The Aviatrix line has two different chronograph models which allow for calculations (thus could be useful for pilots, although this also creates a lot of clutter on the dial/bezel), but the only apparent difference is that the Jackie version has diamonds on the bezel and the Amelia does not. Both are quartz, no case height or lug-to-lug measurements given - and both are 41.5mm in diameter. And I hate the cutesy descriptions which refer to the crystal as the "windshield", the dial as the "cabin interior", and the strap/bracelet as the "seat belt".

For the same money and at the same size, I'd just buy a Citizen Eco-Drive Nighthawk.

Agreed. There are some nice enough looking models there, but nothing you can't find better, elsewhere. ~Sherry.

Is your wife a pilot? I like the style of the Amelia and the Jackie, the Elise I don't care for and doesn't distinguish itself. The dials look like they have pretty small writing and a lot of it and I don't think I'd be able to see much with my over 40 eyes. I also caution looking at the contrast bet dials and hands and make sure the hands are easily seen against the dial. If you think she'd like the colors and style then go for it, but they don't look very functional to me. I don't care for the name "powder puff" either. I guess my question is the watch for dress/fashion or function? If the former then this style may be fine, if the latter, go with something else for that price. I am not pilot however. I think the Amelia on Amazon is a nice blend of function and style. Amazon.com: Abingdon Watch Company Amelia (BLACK (BK)): Abingdon: Watches and the price is not bad for a sapphire crystal.

As long as I could read the watch, I'd be pleased to get it as a gift.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. No, my wife is not a pilot but she does travel for business. She would like a watch with a second time zone, but most of those are made for men and those that are for women are usually rectangular with two watch faces which she does not like. I was thinking of the Elise in two tone white and gold with the rotating bezel for easy time zone setting.
