2012 WUS Chinese GMT SE Project - DESIGN

GMT styling was chosen to represent this year's WUS Chinese SE Project, so please feel free to submit your ideas and opinions on this theme.

The cost of this watch will be in the region of US$230, not including shipping.

Ideas on case/lug size, dial format and colour, SE engravings, caseback (see-through or solid) etc. would be most welcome .

I'm happy! That was my first choice. I'm in. I'll try to get some inspirational photos handy soon, but my big hope would be a 24 hour GMT hand with 24 hour internal rotating bezel, along with the usual three hand 12hr movement. Date should not get in the way of the "3" (so no date or a careful design omitting 3.) Really good lume a double plus. Exhibition caseback of course, since it won't be a real dive watch. No screw-down crowns, please, and 40-42mm would work the best I think. I'm sure I'll have more to say, but this is just my happy rant. Yay!

Too many watches, not enough wrists.

Whether we make a dive bezel or a gmt bezel doesn't really matter to me, but we could in both cases take some styling cues from the compressor divers like the Longines Legend, ...

The case chosen is already 40mm and has the exhibition back. I think we should get it in brushed/polished stainless (not the ion plated like it is now) and make it look like a vitage compressor diver with a high, domed crystal and bright luminous paint on the markers/numbers and hands:

Or lume the white part on something like this:

    to something like this:

I think a black rubber or composite strap will look good on it too.

Although not a true dive watch, I prefer to have the bezel in the uncluttered dive style rather than the GMT.

What are our options for luminous paint? Some are way better than others.

    - 42 mm, but 40mm should be good if it's the case of the 219.322.
    - Brush SS or polish, no PVD.
    - 24hr hand.
    - 24hr rotating bezel for GMT

Combine with a compressor diver look, this shoul be really cool!

Just fine this one for the hand/dial layout:

Domed crystal would be awesome. I think we also need something distinctively Chinese on this watch. Perhaps Chinese numerals at 3, 6, 9, or something along those lines. I prefer watches with some, but not all, hour indicies numbered. Also, will there be an option for a bracelet?

The V.E. & Vostok K34 are both stunners and have their own look, as does the Poljot alarm(s). For my 7" wrist the K34 at 41mm wears large so would prefer 38mm-40mm, and as thin as possible as more shirt friendly.

Always liked the Seagull GMT except the black case, should be brushed or matt st.st. imo (less likely to show swirl/scratches/marks). However it isn't Chinese enough somehow. Perhaps with a Shanghai mil. type dial and good lume. , not sure if lume would look better white, jade green or aged beige.

Agree with most of the above:

    40-42mm
    See-through caseback
    Domed crystal
prefer black back over the lume backing
24 hour GMT hand with 24 hour internal rotating bezel
