I have been looking at purchasing a 24hr watch for some time now. The Botta range appeals most, especially their Duo model.
Question is, how does it work?! Obviously the main hand points toward the 24hr dial but the dual time hand rotates along the 12hr dial.
Shouldn't both dials be operating on a 24hr resolution for the concept to work?
Yes, but they're using an unmodified ronda gmt movement .. the same movement is used for quite a few of the quartz 24 hour watches, they just leave off the 12 hour hand (and put a normal looking hour hand on the gmt post) Not sure if there's a quartz movement that has 2 24 hour hands on it.
I think you've got it the wrong way round. The main, large hand points to the outer 12-hour scale for local time, where you presumably know whether it's am or pm. The smaller hand points to the inner 24-hour scale for a remote location, UTC, etc. You set the main hand to local time first, then set the 24 hand as a fixed offset from the main hand. Only the two UNO 24 models show local time on a 24-hour scale.
IMHO it would be easier to retain the UNO principle and put the secondary time on a rotating ring inside the watch. The design wouldn't be improved by adding a bezel.
