Looking for a GMT beater watch

i have a Omega SMP 50th anniversary GMT but i don't wear it offshore on the drill rig.
I'm considering a Parnis GMT homage but can't decide on an asian movement Or an ETA. I guess my big question is ... are these watches quality and worth $250... What some other options for a price range of under $250?

GMT watches with ETA movements at US$250, you will probably only find in second hand market. Steinhart has probably some of the most affordable at around US$450.
You can also try to search for a Russian brand like Vostok-Europe. But even their GMT are more around the US$350 or more. And the models i know from Vostok-Europe don't have an independently adjustable GMT hand.
Within your budget i think only chinese made watches. The "Parnis" is an option with several "homage" models found on Ebay or other online vendors. Parnis is what we call a mushroom brand and their quality varies a lot.
You can take a look at opinions on the Chinese and Affordable Watch forums here on WUS.
I own one of those GMT Parnis. It works well, is more or less accurate (within 15 to 20 seconds a day). Currently it is on my watch winder turning around and around...
You can also take a look at "Perpetual Watch" company and take a look at their GMT models based on the chinese made RK4D movement. Alex Lee is a very nice guy to talk to and his watches are excelent quality wise (i own one of their Chrono C-06)

For a beater, does it have to be automatic? Some other nice choices out there like Citizen Eco-Drive GMT.

That's what I was thinking. And there are quite a few around with Rhonda 24hr Qz movement, which is where I'd head if I was going to be living on an oil rig
