Modillian - A smart strap for wristwatches - now on Indiegogo

    Hi everyone!

I am Eran, an industrial engineer and entrepreneur, who also happens to like mechanical watches.

Yesterday, I have launched an Indiegogo campaign for a new product: a "Smart Strap". The concept is, to allow those of us who prefer mechanical over "smart" watches, to enjoy smart-phone notifications. The basic use-case is, when you're in a business meeting, phone is in your briefcase, but you still want to know if your wife calls, or to get a reminder for the next meeting on your calendar.

We're initially offering backers a 20/22 mm strap (20 mm on buckle end either way) and a choice of a few leather straps, made for us by Hirsch. We're aiming for real high quality.

Any level of support and contributon would be extremely appreciated! Our campaign is on http://igg.me/at/smart-strap

I thank WUS and Ernie Romers for approving this message.

Seems neat. What medium do you use for synchronization, and what OS's does it interface with?

Hi Elijah! We use Bluetooth Low Energy, and we initially do an Android version. We're pretty sure we'll do iOS later, but the current campaign's commitment is for Android.

I've also thought of this concept before and actually predicted it'll get crowd funded by someone else someday. Only in my sketches the unit is higher up the strap to avoid rubbing on the desk or laptop when typing. Good luck!

Interesting idea. I am unclear about a few things:

-Do you have a working prototype?
-The buckle allows you to view notifications only? Or can you interact with it?
-Does the app have to be open for the buckle to work, or can it run in the background?

Pretty good idea. A nice compromise. Would possibly have backed an iOS version.

I like the concept. I agree with Brad that something a little higher up would be better as this is a device that would likely move to multiple watches and will end up with plenty of desk diving marks.

    Hi,

    regarding your questions:

    1. no working prototype; we need the funds to hire a developer for the embedded components.
    2. no interaction via the device; basically, it's all designed for simplicity.

    Thanks!
