I'm preparing to take on another project using an old Elgin PW dial in a reproduction Radiomir-style cushion case. The dial is seriously used and abused, with more patina than a watch should have - but I really like the look. Big, bold, yellowed Arabic numerals over a satin black base with sub seconds at 12. I'm wanting to modify the case to look or feel similarly used and abused, and my plan is to have it powder coated in some color and or texture. A friend of mine is in the powder coat business and has agreed to help me out on the project, but I need to get the parts to her ready to go. My concern is that the crystal won't survive the oven and has to come out, same for any little o-ring gaskets that might be in the case.
Has anyone in the knowledge base removed the crystal or bezel from this type of case, and if so, how? The case is brand new, and the crystal is mineral glass from the manufacturer's specs. Any clues on how to approach this part of the project would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Clair
