    Crystal restoration/replacement Seiko Ladies 2706-024B 21J - any suggestions?

    Hi all

I have a ladies, apparently a very good auto movement from the 70s which belonged to my mom. It has a nice golden dial (not like the yellow pic). I am thinking to have it serviced and buff it and give it to my mom or to my daughter. I will not do that unless I solve the crystal issue. BTW watch works but clearly was not serviced in many years.
It has a 9 facet crystal which is scratched, especially due to scraping at the angles between the facets.
I'm not too sure that the facet concept was a good engineering idea on behalf of Seiko due to this sensitivity.
So, I am looking to fix or most probably change the crystal. Almost 100% sure it is glass, tapped it with a metal screwdriver and heard the glass sound.
Anyone know: would it be possible to change the crystal and is it possible and feasible to re polish the crystal?
Honestly I don't like the crystal to start with, not sure if it has a tension ring in there which I in my humble understanding makes replacing trickier.
I Google but couldn't find any reference to the model case 0248 (although did find a watchmaker's technical guide PDF for 2706)
    Your thoughts and ideas?

There are many nos crystals available for Seiko watches.

I have a Cas-ker Crystal Crown Stem Case Reference catalog that shows your case number 2706-024b. The correct crystal p/n is 200W08GH02.

Just about any supplier should be able to supply the crystal based on your case number.

See my signature for a list of suppliers.

Thank you very much clock40man for your efforts.
I was at the watchmaker today and left him the watch. I told him I wanted either a domed or a flat crystal. He found me a genuine used Seiko flat glass crystal and already fitted it. I am curiously wondering how it will look after the deep case buff I also requested. I will only know after it will be serviced, when I fetch it in a week or two. Just hope my daughter likes it...

    Hi,

What you have is a 28,800 BPH movement. Nice one at that.

Tell your daughter that it is a Hi-Beat movement and is rather special in its own right -- then the sentimental value.

    Cheers,

    Hunter

Hunter - good you noticed as well it is a good quality piece and a potentially accurate one due to the 8bps. That's why I submitted it to be fixed. But will that interest a 16 year old girl? If she doesn't like the look that will be that, but then she may change her mind a year later. Many teens nowadays don't even wear watches, cause they claim rightfully that the cell provides time. Oh, anyway. Lets wait and see.

You may have to polish the case and bracelet instead of leaving it brushed -- bling, don't you know.

The sentimental value is also placed in her head by how you present it to her. Make it special. Have it "packaged" even in a new Seiko box. I'd also have a hand-written card connecting your mom to your daughter. Make it more memorable than just handing it to her. That will help "sell" it in her mind.

    Good luck!

Polish case and buff up and clean bracelet is in the big plan. Thumbs up to you bro.

After fix. Shame my daughter isn't interested in wearing a watch.
I'll keep it for a later stage...

The only problem left is the day wheel, which seems to be misplaced and shows the day at an angle. I shall return it to the watchmaker, don't know how he didn't notice that...
