    Eta 2894 Skipping Causes?

    Hi Everyone,

I have a Chopard mille miglia chronograph which has an Eta 2894-2. There is a problem with the watch. When i press the start button for the chronograph, the large second hand begins to move but but rather than tick smoothly it skips.

I've sent the watch to the service center multiple times but they were never able to repair it 100%. I finally emailed Chopard in Geneva requesting to send the watch back to the factory. They told me to give it to the service center and they would send to Geneva. Almost 3 months have past and i went to get my watch today, i was told the movement was changed but the problem is still there....even worse now than before!

Does anyone know what causes this skipping??

The 2894 movement does have a lot of play with the chronograph second hand. At least the three I have do.

How bad are they? Do they skip horribly all around the dial, mine is very bad it ticks across like a cheap quartz watch.

How many times per second do you think? Sounds like a bad stutter do to an indirect second hand drive with poor adjustments? Or is it direct?

It probably beats 1 time per second maybe 2 at times. Its horrible, i think normally it has 5 or 6 beats.

As for the details of the movement I'm unsure. But there is definitely something horribly wrong. What do you think it is?

I have requested they send it back to the factory to be re-tuned, hoping it comes back right this time.

I don't have experience with this movement, so I'm not sure if it can be adjusted (it probably can ) because the chronograph module comes as an add-on and ETA doesn't recommend dismantling, but a full module replacement. Wow, thanks for the info! Its funny i actually once read something that said a chrono movement had to be sent back to Eta for repair. I tried to ask eta directly for answer about the skipping but they emailed back saying to contact the watch manufacturer for service.

The manufacturer said they replaced the whole movement for me but the problem was worse than before...

I suspect they replaced not the whole movement, but only the chronograph module. The issue you are observing is easily fixable on any chrono movement by adjusting eccentric screws. I do not know if this option exists on this module if ETA doesn't consider it serviceable. Hope this helps.

It's hard to say if you have a problem or not without seeing the watch, however the 2894 does have a lot of play on the chronograph module and a stutter is quite normal with these.
