I suspect any attempt to modify the dial would end in disaster! I presume the dials are silk screened (?) so the word would have to be removed with cleaner or something, which in turn would make a mess of the paint beneath.
Can I ask why you want to remove the word "sport"?
Andrew
Thanks for the reply Andrew! I want to remove the word "Sports" because the watch is supposed to be military style and the word takes away from that...also it is the general consensus among many owners of this watch would look better if the 5 badge and Sports were removed. However from your advice and the fact that no one has successfully removed the words, I think I'll leave it be and see if there are any replacement / aftermarket dials I can use :) Thanks again!

Try a piece of sharpen peg wood or close to it. See if with that you can scrape it off. Try a small spot and go slow with firm pressure.
Nail polish remover. Be careful not to get it on the other words though. It's the acetone that kills it.

Send it to International Dial Co. Inc. and ask them for their help with the removal, or refinish it without the text.

If you can get access to the dial, you may as well order a new dial face to your liking from 'SEIKO" dial supplier. You can then choose to your heart's content. Black, white or orange for that matter. The thought of removing the word 'sport' is IMHO crazy not to mention the end result!! use black masking tape , perhaps.![]()
