    At my watch guy's today

He prefers to be called an horologist, but he had this custom piece on his bench. He designed the case, had a one-off custom cast in rose gold, and put in a Tiffany pocket watch movement and dial. I dig the driver's style twist he gave it.

it's a big sucker, too, maybe 44mm diameter and at least 16mm thick. He said the gold alone for the case was $4K.

Wish I'd gotten a better shot of that gorgeous movement!

    A thing of beauty.

Is that the normal state of projects on his bench...?

Yeah, pretty much. He had a vintage Rolex GMT and a Speedie Pro sitting off to one side.

Looks like several disasters looking for a place to happen...
Might be that the balance on the tack is one of them...or it could have taken one look around and decided that it might try and commit oscillicide...
With all due respect, may be a great guy, but the work area does not look conducive to good hygiene...
That said, his Tiffany WW project is very handsome...
    Best of luck...

is your watch guy in the DC area? I have a vintage (1967) Rolex that needs servicing and Im looking for a good watchmaker in the area to look at it.

I've seen way more cluttered work areas from some truly exceptional watchmakers. A dust cover over those exposed balances would be nice but don't see anything particularly criminal on that bench.

Stopped by again today, and got a better shot of the movement, and this still doesn't do it justice.

    Case is 44mm, 18mm thick.
