What is involved in replacing the stem in an Omega 300 Hz Chronometer?

What is involved in replacing the stem in an Omega 300 Hz Chronometer? Is this someone with a lot of experience working with their hands to tight tolerances, but little watch repair experience, can successfully do? Are there any resources available to learn?

    Hi there,

the stem is unlocked with a push button, and this needs no special skills.
But attention, everything else needs some knowledge of the movement; you can damage a lot if you treat it like any other.

As Roland mention, you need to be exceptionally careful when working on one of these movements. Advice: Get someone experienced to do it. But if you want to take a chance, this is how to do it. Remove the battery clamp. Remove the 4 screws securing the oscillator module, being extremely careful not to slip with the screwdriver and stab a coil. Gently lift the oscillator module up vertically, place it flat side down on a clean watchpaper. Don't touch it. Then the button for releasing the stem can be seen adjacent to where the stem enters the movement, Gently press, and pull the stem out. Replace the stem. Place the oscillator module back onto the movement, lowering it into place gently. Place the 4 screws back in and tighten them until the very slightest resistance is felt. Replace the battery strap, and insert a cell. When the movement is humming and the second hand is moving, you can then progressively tighten the 4 screws.

    Regards, Rob

Thank you for the advice. From the data above, this is not a job for just anyone working in a jewelry store. Currently, I do not have a relationship with a good watchmaker. So the task is to find one.
