Hi, and welcome to the forum! You say that you are looking for an ETA 6497 or 6498 movement and that you would like to purchase an automatic movement. The 6497 and 6498 are manual wind, not automatic.

I thought that that was related to size, and not movement. Thank you for the help! If a case calls for a 6497 movement, can only a mechanical movement fit inside? or is there an automatic movement that will fit?

An automatic is a mechanical movement, as is a 6497, but the 6497 is a straight wind (needs to be wound by hand). The 6497 is a 16 1/2 ligne (size) movement. Any movement could be made to fit in a case that calls for a 6497, with work.

There was an automatic 6497 but I don't think it was very good. I had one in a random off brand, I think fortis used it once too.

Okay, thank you for all the help. Is there an inexpensive manual wind 6497 movement that I could try out? I am trying to find one but they seem pretty expensive...
