    New Watch

Alright I need some advice, my wife wants to get me a new watch to wear to celebrate my new job and we looked at this Seiko 'Excelsior' Men's Kinetic Watch Model SKA402 : SKA402 - Buy.com and this Amazon.com: Tissot T-Sport PRC200 Mens Watch T0144101104700: Tissot: Watches
Have heard some negative stuff about Seiko Kinetics it was the earlier ones also it seems that the Seiko brand is going out of stores and can't get an answer why and don't know alot about Tissot but looks well made and has a Swiss movement
    Any advice is appreciated

    Re: New Watch

I'd buy the Tissot without hesitation

I've a few Tissots that I am very happy with. I love the look of the watch and the movement as well. I am not a big fan of Seikos so I can't really form an opinion between the two. However, if you were to go based solely on design of the two I would go with the Tissot.

Has anyone else noticed this happening with Seiko (coming out of stores)? Doesn't seem to be going on in Oz, but would be keen to hear feedback anyone else might have.

    Re: New Watch

i would advise to buy the seiko, as i'm as attached to the design, as to the inner technology, and for me, a kinetic or auto, or solar watch will always be more interesting than a simple quartz with battery... (I hate to leave my watches for servicing, or battery replacement...)

that's my point... I know it's not shared by all watch-fans...

Here in France, Seiko don't seem to get out of shops...they DO get in ! more and more little shops are selling them, and more and more new models.

    Re: New Watch

I have a couple of Seiko Kinetics and I love them. To me, they are a great compromise between quartz and automatic. I picked one of them from a deal of the day site and the capacitor would not hold a charge. I had my doubts whether the warranty would be honored, but I sent it in to Seiko's US service center anyway. They honored the warranty and swapped out the capacitor at no charge. It runs like a champ!

I asked at one of the more popular AD's in Winnipeg, Mb, they told me "price". They got out of Seiko, Swiss Army, and Tissot, for "lower price brands as the young people, if they buy watches do not want to spend $500, they want $150 and under (at the most)", that's just what he said, but he was the manager, this particular chain of AD's is well known in the city. But...I did buy a Swiss Army divemaster 500m in black, on bracelet, for 50% when they were clearing everything out!!
Could be that everyone and their dog has a cell phone now? Less need for a watch, and those that do just need a basic watch, or the kids want "fake bling" style watches? Unless all those kids I see with massive diamond bling style watches are in fact quite wealthy and those watches are real??
