Terry P from Toronto - Unethical Seller

Had a deal for an Oris Carlos Coste LE and agreed to the sellers terms and his asking price. He agreed to meet me to do the transaction and for an inspection before purchase. As the date to meet got closer he stopped reaponding to email and I soon discovered he had sold the watch to another buyer in Australia. The buyer in Australia already had the watch in his posession and yet Terry had still agreed to meet me. I dont know if this watch was genuine or a replica, but at issue here is how this guy does business and certaily his ethics should be questioned.

There are 2 sides to every story my friend. Coming on here with a new account and zero activity to discredit a long-standing member...really??? I have bought and sold more watches than I can count on both forums. The # of years i've been a member of the forums, the # of people of I've dealt with both in person and from overseas and feedback speaks for itself. I have been upstanding everytime. You my friend were an absolute nightmare to deal with. Having gone as far as putting you in contact with the service centre to authenticate the watch, sending you countless pics, referring you to the original owners posts about the watch on Friends of ORIS and providing you with over 8 references, you still had your doubts. Clearly, the deal was not a good fit. It was absolutely painfull. Taking a 300 dollar hit by selling to the gentleman in Australia was totally worth not dealing with this gentleman.

One question: When, precisely, did you inform the OP that you were not interested in pursuing the sale and was going to sell the watch to another buyer?

Why does in matter when he told him? A non sale is just that, a non sale.

How can you complain about someone not selling you a watch. Come on, really? Until money exchanges hands, the seller is free to sell to whom ever.

OP, it happens, grow up and just moved on. You're just making your self look bad.

And over an Oris too, lol

Terry..I appreciate that I was asking a ton of questions..I dont know you, and I was just protecting my interests. Im sorry if you felt dealing with me was a nightmare, but you went back on your word. There was zewro risk to you as I was paying in cash...I sat on a stack of hundred dollar bills for nearly two weeks and had the receipt from the bank to show everythning was done in good faith. At no point did you tell me you had sold the watch to another buyer. You cancelled our first meeting time to do the transaction the night before because of work. You agreed to meet again the following week then did not respond to any emails that were sent. I did have your number but respected you enough (and trusted you enough) to not use it. When I look back through our correspodence, you agreed to meet me still even though you had already sent the watch off to the other buyer..something I still don't understand. Yeah I'm new to this forum, but what difference does that make? So you have a number of good references..well here's your fist negative reference. By the way you told me the watch had been serviced in December of 2010 (and no paperwork to back that up) when in fact service was done in April..probably just a mistake and I let that slide. I did appreciate the effort that you put into the deal sending pics and references, but that all means nothing when you pulled this manoeuver. Yeah I may have been a pain in the ass but I am a man of my word. The cash was ready to go..I just wanted a second opinion from an experienced watchmaker as to the integrity of the seals and the overall condition of the watch. I find it funny how the day before we were to meet to have the watch examined you cancelled and sold the watch to a customer on the other side of the world as opposed to face to face with a buyer 30 minutes away. So yeah taking a 300 dollar hit to not have to deal with me is one thing, but me not taking a $2000 hit and dealing with an unethical seller? Well good news Terry...You lost 300 and I saved 2K.

He didn't tell me..when he wouldn t respond I found the watch on The Friends of Oris with a sold message underneath and a reply from the buyer thanking him for the watch.

Wrong. The issue at hand is one of communication.

And as far as I'm concerned the OP has used this forum for exactly what it's been designed for... to provide feedback on how other WUS members carry themselves when buying and selling watches. I have yet to understand why it is that whenever someone who isn't deemed "one of the boys" comes forth with a good-faith report, someone who is "one of the boys" feels compelled to denigrate and/or mock them... "And over an Oris too, lol". Why mock someone because of the make of watch involved... Would the situation be any different if it was a Patek? No, it wouldn't. So what's the purpose here? Trying to censor someone with the termerity to voice his opinion in a manner that falls well within the guidelines and rules of this forum? If so, why?

I don't know who's right here, but there really isn't any reason for someone who isn't directly involved in the situation to be attacking the OP for using this forum to report his experience with another WUS member.

Hey Rico..it has nothing to do with the buy and sell..money exhanged or not exchanged..ethics is the key word here. Thanks for your comment..and BTW I love my Oris as much as my Panerai, Omega, and Breitling..not sure what that last comment has to do with anything

Hey told us his opinion and I responded with my opinion. I am not kidding when say I have had an insane amount of bad communication and flakes here, and plenty wonderful transactions too. I have plenty flake messages in my in my inbox right now. And I'm not bothered one bit, comes with the hobbie.

Get over yourself, if the person isn't ripping you off, then it just a fail deal. Move on. Period.

Should I post a thread for everytime a member has said they going to send me a payment and did not? It was almost a daily accurance for a while.

No, I am not that petty.

Wow Rico..are you calling me a flake? The guy agreeing to the sellers terms and conditions to pay a guy 2k in cash when all he has to do is show up? I certainly have no problem with your opinion, but a bigger man can do it without an insult
