Hi, and welcome to the forum!
With clear case-back:
Prometheus Recon 5
Without clear case-back:
Fortis Flieger - this is possibly the most authentic, and best (*donning head for flaming from other members*) Flieger you'll find in your price range.
cheers,
Jake.

Check out Tourby watches.
Thanks. They are great but they don't have dates. For some reason whenever I want to know what day it is the first place I look is my watch.Originally Posted by jjt2

Plenty of IWC watches have the date. I can sacrifice the vanity case back but not a date and the the AR coating. Any other suggestions out there? This is trying to be a 30th bday present from my wife.Originally Posted by Rusty_Shakleford
Just bumping this. Anybody have any other thoughts? My search got put on hold for a while but I'm back in the game now.
If you don't mind the 40 mm case, I would go with the Stowa Flieger (with date).
The movement is nicely detailed and comes with blue screws. The crystal is AR coated on the inside.
The Stowa Flieger has a strong following and is considered an excellent value for the money.
The only downside is the long wait time. But with the extra cash you could purchase a Stowa Marine Auto!
Also, the Lacos appear an excellent choice, if you want a larger, authentic Flieger. The most authentic of the bunch!
Sinn makes some nice watches but the larger ones (>40mm ) cost a tad more than $1500,
still, I would check out their selection. You could have one made by Tourby watches to your
specification, for a good price!

I like the previous poster's suggestion, I find a 40mm Stowa the perfect size for this type of watch watch. They wear large since they are almost all dial.
Steinhart, Archimede (the hw Flieger is 45mm).
Kind regards
