It's 1700hrs somewhere...
It sounds like you had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity. I am in a similar place right now. I enjoy all my watches but I am currently only rotating two. I am looking at watch pictures for what my next purchase might be but I know I don't need them and I cant see taking either of the two I am wearing off. Keep adding to the omega fund for a while, and stay away from the sales corner(and schnoop, and amazon, and ebay...).

Not sure if this will help any of you other guys but I thought this might me a good time to share my new budgeting scheme...I am out and about for my work all day and most times it is easier to buy something while out than wait till I get home to make something for my self. I commented to my wife a few weeks back that I wanted to buy a new watch but we didn't have much spare cash, her comment was "well if you didn't spend so much on other stuff during the week then maybe we would have some spare cash" That got me thinking and after some discussion (negotiation) we came up with "POCKET MONEY/ALLOWANCE" On average I was spending about $50-60 per week on food and other pointless stuff so I agreed to NOT spend that money and instead I get an allowance, I can spend it on what ever I want but if I want takeaway food it has to come out of my allowance the same for buying watches. To make it fair both my wife and I get the same amount which at the moment is $25/week (we are also trying to reduce our weekly spend in general) so in 4 weeks I will have $100 and so on. Kind of a way to limit yourself but the thing I have learned is that I really did spend a lot on pointless things when I could easilly have been saving $2500 a year toward watches or anything else! Might be a way for those of you on a super tight budget like me to still achieve you goals. Cam

I admire your discipline -- $50-60 of pointless spending is my goal!On average I was spending about $50-60 per week on food and other pointless stuff so I agreed to NOT spend that money
well shame on you man! what about getting that speedie? thats the watch you have been drooling over, now the prices have gone up again, so its farther way. on the upside you do have more watches.![]()
I figure the speedy will always be at least one step away from me. As I save up for it prices will go up and then when I get to that point prices will go up again. I'm not going to buy any more watches until I get the speedy.
Money towards Snoopy Speedy Fund: (-$518) (got hit with a $2600 car repair bill!)

I too am kinda new to the watch "scene". I have always liked watches every since I was a kid but never took the time to learn about movements, brands, etc....
I'm slowly learning and I fear it will be the death of my checkbook at some point. My problem is I have a wife, two kids and the various other anti-hobby expenses that preclude me from going on any kind of wild buying spree. Right now I'm focused on getting a few humble Seiko divers and at some point when it's fiscally reasonable I'd like to be able to purchase a few higher quality pieces (Oris, Omega, Panerai....)

I'm after a speedy myself and thinking of quiting cigarettes. How's that going for you? 37 packs ignored, right? Over here in the Netherlands one pack of 25 goes for €4,50 actually 23 for 4,40 (they put less in a pack to make it seem cheaper) that is like $7 a pack.
I do about a pack a day that is 7x365= $2555 a year. HELLO speedy (used) and some other handsome watch.
