If it's to the left, you've turned it one click too far.
Mine used to be to the right by about half a minute, but after playing with it for a few days it is centering better now. I belive the misalignment will improve as the spring beds in and loses a bit of its force ...mine seems to have.
I don't think it's possible to "improve" if the spring had more play, which seems to be what you're describing. More play will mean it's less precise so it may or may not happen to align, depending.

As for the roughness under the bezel ...thought I had an issue there too ...turned out to be dust from the inside of the box. The velvety stuff inside the box gets chafed during transport and the tiny particles sneak in under the bezel. Slide a bit of paper round under the bezel and you might find your finish improved
Checked with a loupe. Definitely not dust on mine. Looks like tool marks. There two pairs of marks, about the same distance from either lug on the non-crown side.

Also, there's some small scratches on the polished crown.

sorry to hear that ...no issues here

Correct ...but previously it never aligned correctly ...so that is an improvement.
No seriously, with less push from the spring the aligment does actually improve

That shouldn't happen - mine was perfect.Speak to the guys.

Yeah, I had the same dust all over mine from the velvety interior of the box braking up during shipment. Hope they change that for future projects.

IIRC, someone had already posted a couple pages back that these models have a 60 click bezel that will have a bit more play in them and may not align exactly perfectly. They plan to only use a 120 click bezel on future diver watch projects.

Chris already PM'd me and offered an apology and exchange. I'm going to send it back for another. What's another few weeks without my new toy. We're a patient lot, after all...

Here's a Q&D shot of mine, on a brushed 22mm Watchadoo, if anyone was interested.

Also, mine is running +1s/day, fully wound. Not sure if that's a factory (G.Gerlach) adjustment, or I got lucky but it's damn good. Hope they all run like this.

Sokol 008/300 is here in Canada. Well, just one problem, Canadian customs hit me with a $75 fee... oh well, not anyone's fault

Very nice finish and I went to a local watch store an put a nice brushed stainless steel strap, love it. If you do another project open to public purchases, I would love to see a Swiss or a local eastern European movement.
