Alright guys, a little background. I was given a fairly large check (for me at least) from my grandma for Christmas with instructions to only use it on a watch. My search led me to this forum, and now I have the bug bad. My approach has been to find the watch that I love but could never dream of owning (at this stage in my life), then find the best homage hopefully under $300.
One of the very first things I found was the Vostok blue "Scuba Dude" and bought it immediately on the 420 case. I am a regular diver and love a nautical theme. put it on a zulu strap and called it a day.
Today I have three "grails" as I have learned they are called, and the best options I have found.
1st: Omega Seamaster 300m in blue. Beautiful watch, and I think blue dials are my all time favorite.
- option 1: Bulova 98c62
Amazon.com: Bulova Men's 98C62 Marine Star Watch: Bulova: Watches
-option 2: Orient blue Mako. This is a hugely popular watch on this forum and you probably don't need a reference.
I'm leading towards Bulova for the name value (superficial I know), thinner case, and the added accuracy of quartz over automatic (Don't shoot me).
2nd: Tudor heritage Chrono. My God do I love this watch! And I can't find anything that even comes close, so we will skip this for now.
Tudor Heritage Chrono - Official Tudor Website
3rd: Blancpain fifty fathoms. I love the simple yet elegant look of it.
Precision Timepieces: Blancpain Fifty Fathoms
- For this I see the Seiko SNZH57K1 that would have to be modded with a new dial
Seiko Fifty Five Fathoms dial is in!
It seems that these dials were very limited in availability and are now gone? Does anyone know if it is possible to still get their hands on one? Or would I just have to wait for one to pop up for sail? I couldn't do it myself so would need advice on getting it done if I bought them separately.
I typed a whole lot I know, and I certainly appreciate if you read it all. Look forward to hearing everyone's input and getting my collection going! Thanks.
