Help. How do I stop my dad from buying me Stauer watches?

My dad keeps buying me Stauer watches. I appreciate his sentiment, I am well passed my Stauer watch phase thanks to all of you. I guess it could be my beater watch. I know that it won't seen any real wrist time. How do I tell him I have no need for a Stauer when I have a Luminox, a Tissot, a VSA, and soon a Hamilton. The trick is not to seem ungrateful.

Try to picture how you would like to be told should you be buying the gifts. When you see him, maybe show him your watch collection, tell him how they work, which ones you like, etc. Of course the ones he gave you will be featured. This will likely give him the idea. You can always buy him a watch, as well. Mainly just talk to him about watches for a bit.

    Gosh, that's a tough call.

Has he bought you more than one? If not, I don't think you need to worry.

If so, it is a little more tricky. Maybe suggest that you'd prefer gift cards or something?

I see an easy solution. Tell him you collect watches, but only one from each brand. Suggest some brands for future purchases if asked.
    WnS and britewhite like this.
Shut your mouth and wear your Alpinist.
Note that "Your Alpinist" is metaphorical and in truth refers to your most versatile watch.

This is the third one. I gave one away in the ugly watch contest a few months back. By the way upon examination the watch was damaged. The caseback was dented and the band was mangled. Fun stuff.

Re-gift them to him on his birthday. ALL of them. In one box. That should do it.

In the ensuing aftermath, just let him know you are UBER picky about your watches and you've developed an anal retentive "procedure" to picking out each watch. Months of research are needed to determine if a watch truly deserves a home in your watchbox. A man must respect this (its in the man-code by laws), so he will certainly never buy you another watch unprompted.

Once you've arrived at a certain level of WIS-ery, the above mentioned anal retentive qualities are practically second nature, so its not so far fetched...

Tell him you would appreciate if instead of buying you a bunch of Stauer watches he would hold off on the purchases in order to buy you a watch that will last longer and therefore become a family heirloom.

This is tough one. It doesn't seem like there is a good way to go about this because you might hurt his feelings when telling him not purchase another. I hope he doesn't know you gave the other one away, either!
