Need Suggestions for Shopping in Berlin

    Greetings All,

I know there are many experienced bargain hunters in the group and I need some suggestions of where to go shopping for a nice German watch in Berlin. I will be over there in a few days don't know where to go or what to look for. I treat myself to one high end watch a year and I don't have a German watch. I think Berlin is as good as place as any to go looking for one.

I had thought about Sinn watches, does anyone know if there is a factory ...... in Berlin?

Or I'm open for suggestions on any other German watch brands or shops that have good quality auto/mechanical watches. I prefer larger watches, 41mm or over case, and I also prefer saphire crystal.

I missed out on a Zenith Rainbow Flyback in Vienna last year and I've been kicking myself about passing it up ever since, so a German something like that would be great to pick up. I'm also hoping to spend less than $2500 USD. I've seen some fantastic A. Lange & Sohne and Glashute Original pieces, but I think those are out of my price range.

You folks come up with some awesome pieces in this forum. I appreciate any suggestions you may have.

    Many Thanks,

    Dave_SoCal :thanks

There´s no Sinn ...... in Berlin and there´s none in Germany. The only place to get your Sinn is at ADs or right from the factory at Frankfurt (no price reduction). The Sinn AD I know is outside of the centre of Berlin:
Juwelier Stöger GmbH i.G,. Berkaer Straße 6, 14199 Berlin.

A place to be - as already mentioned - is Wempe at Friedrichstraße or Kürfürstendamm. At Friedrichstraße Rene Kern is another well known dealer (GO, Anonimo, Rolex, Maurice Lacroix, Cartier, Ebel and many other brands). Down at Quartier 205 (opposit side of Rene Kern) you´ll find a little watch shop with Candino watches (have a look at their divers).

On Kurfürstendamm you´ll find some very distinguished flagship stores of Cartier, Bulgari. Bucherer, a well known swiss watch shop, just opened at Kurfürstendamm.

Close to the Kurfürstendamm you´ll find Linckersdorff, Fasanenstraße 70.

Linckersdorff is specialized in vintage (high-end) watches.

If there´s time enough you may visit ASKANIA watches.

Another place to be is the KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens) close to sub station Wittenbergplatz (Cartier shop, Omega shop, Bulgari shop) and a juwelers shop selling GO, Longines, Zenith and other hingh end watches).

Hope this will help a bit.

    WOW Guys,

Thanks for the wealth of information. I am staying close to the Kürfürstendamm area so I will definitely walk over there and have a look around those famous shops. The prices in these tourist areas tend to be, as you already said, on the high side. They have lots of rent to pay you know.

The selection in those shops will, I'm sure, help me narrow down the search. Once I know what I'm looking for, I'll try to find some smaller shops outside the tourist areas where prices are a bit cheaper or I might find a nice "pre-broken-in" piece. I still kick myself in the ass all the time about walking away from that Zenith Flyback last year. I'll also take advantage of the non-EU VAT tax forgivness. That might help me break even with the exchange penality we have to pay when we buy Euros.
Right now the Euro costs $1.31 USD.

Thanks again for the helpful advise.
I'll take Tragic's advise and also cross-post over to the German watch forum and hope thy don't mind too much.

    A Greatful Watch Addict,

    :thanks

    Thanks Mike,

I'm going to print out your post and take it with me. I'll make it a point to find Juwelier Stöger. I'm kind of drawn to the Sinn watch. That will probably all change when I get over there.

    Many Thanks,

    Tragic,
    You have outstanding taste!!
I logged on to the Sinn web site and was drooling over that exact piece last night. It looks $$$$$ but is surely a beautiful piece. I was also looking at the white face 956 Klassik.

    Decisions, Decisions.

Sinn prices are a fair bit lower without the Watchbuys mark-up Dave, do us proud over there and many pics of your visit please!

    Hi -

Having the good luck to live not far from Sinn, I've been over there a few times and want to comment on the 6100.

The dial is amazing: this is Sinn's entry into the higher end of watches. When I first saw it, I thought it was a mock-up of the watch with a printed face, but looking closer I saw that it was the real watch: extraordinarily legibly and with an enormous presence on the wrist. It *is* a tad pricey, but only if you are comparing it to the usual watches that Sinn makes. If you compare it to a Chronoswiss regulator, the Sinn is all of a sudden extremely affordable.

    Hi John,

Thank you very much for your personal perspective. I think your insight has definitely helped narrow down my search field. I will start looking for the 6100 to start off. I like the white dial with blue hands configuration. It looks very elegant. Hopefully I can find a deal under what watchbuys is selling them for over here. Euros cost $1.32 USD today.

I leave for Berlin in the morning. I'll take a camera and shoot some photos where they let me.

    Thanks Again,

    Dave_SoCal
