Buy what you like, keep what you love, don't spend too much.
As long as you follow those simple rules - you shouldn't listen to anyone about your watches.

4 o'clock is my preference although all but one of mine have the crown at three (admittedly that only refers to a total of eight watches). Clearly crown location is not my primary criterion in watch selection![]()
I know nothing except the fact of my own ignorance. Socrates
I don't like the crown at 4 o'clock if there is no crown guard. Sometimes the crown is kind of small and being at 4 o'clock, is too close the lugs for a good grip. One example of this is the Ocean7 LM-1. However, there are some other examples of watches without crownguards with 4 o'clock crowns which are easy to grip, because of shortish lugs, such as the Seiko Sumo or Sinn U1.
Lots of dive watches.
I prefer crowns at 3 o'clock.
For some reason, crowns at 4 o'clock irk me.![]()
The 9 o'clock crown was ommitted.

As usual, it all depends....
If you are winding or adjusting a watch every day [or even frequently] the 3-o'clock position makes sense [or at 9 for southpaws].
If you have a problem with crowns digging into your wrist [I don't] the 2 or 4 position is a nice feature, and it lends a bit of distinction to the styling of the watch.
For a quartz or highly accurate automatic watch, I'd like to see more 6 or 12 o'clock crowns. If you are only adjusting a watch every few weeks or months [or maybe just twice a year for daylight saving], get the darn thing right out of the way! Why not? Tradition is all very well, but not when it takes the place of a feature that's interesting, different and well thought out...
I'm just sayin'....

Love the 4ish placement (SKX007) makes it possible to wear the watch closer to the hand, without the crown eating into it. As the former poster said, I would love to see some more 12 o'clock crowns, especially in affordable watches.
I guess I am a traditionalist, I went with the 3:00 position.
