Recommend affordable watch that will appreciate in value

I am interested in purchasing a dress watch that will appreciate or hold in value. I recently found myself attracted to an old Omega Deville Quartz but realized I have no idea if I could sell it for a reasonable price when I get the next bug. I recently bought a Seiko Monster and was plead to find that I could sell it for the same price I bought it new.

I have few restrictions... Quartz, automatic, leather, SS, handwind, etc. I think my only requirements are that it be a classic worthy of collection, catch my eye and cost less than $500.

Thanks to anyone who would take a minute to register a suggestionor two!

I think you'll be better off putting your extra cash into a money market fund.
Watches are not a good investment. Fun, beautiful, addictive... yes. Investment... no.
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

How about buying used? The first seller already has taken the hit on selling a used watch, so you should only take a small loss as long as you don't damage it too much.
Appreciating in value is unlikely like mentioned above, especially with restrictions on the watch's appearance/specs.

Your only realistic chance of a watch appreciating in value is buying a vintage automatic, and buying it for a good, cheap price.

It would still take a lot of luck though.

Not possible, even with vintage watches.
Any watch worth money sells for a high price, only way to get it for cheaper is to take advantage of a situation (example: taken advantage of a person ignorant of the watch's value, flipping Orients after the price increases, flipping forum watches, etc), and if your that kind of person you'll get no advice from me.

Edit: Forgot to clarify, I've nothing against profiting from selling watches due to supply/demand or price increases but if you do that be sure to become a forum sponsor because you are technically making a business out of it while using the Forum's great resources of information and even market place. Even if it's one watch.

Thanks everyone. Not looking for an investment, just something that won't tank in value. I guess I figured that some watches had to have a collector value that would increase over time with rarity. Kind of like a citizen bullhead. Relatively cheap but they're not making more of 'em.

Oh well. That is why I asked.

the only watch that somewhat fits your requirements is Stowa... but that is because there is a 4 month waiting period for them, so by the time you get it, you might be able to flip it for the same price because someone doesn't want to wait. a modest price increase happens every 2 years, but that probably isn't enough ROI
Omega Aqua Terra 8500, Seagull ST8000SA Tourbillon, Stowa Antea KS, Rolex 14060m Submariner, Citizen Stiletto AR3010-57E

On way out: Auguste Galan Moscato Skeleton Chronograph,
Gone: Panerai Pam 48, Zeppelin 7618-1, Rotary Vintage Skeleton GS02518/06
