    The right pronunciation of Victorinox?

As a new owner I just must get it right.... This brand is known for theirs knifes in Sweden and everyone says "Victorinox". Say all letters. Just like a computer was speaking. But with some strenght on "in". Victor IN OX"

The girl in the watch store said " VictorinoX" with strength at last part of the word. And the "X" sounded very strong.

The seller said " Victorino". No "X" was heard. Like the town of Chamonix

The Swedish pronunciation we can exclude. But what about the other two?

    Regards

depends if you are swiss or german.

in "high german" i would say : vikkteaurreenockss.

like the name "victor", then a very short "ee" (some make it longer), then "night" in church latin.
the x is definetily heard always.

hard to describe for the english tongue or the readers here.
the guys here say it perfectly, often in swiss, but "high german" at sec 14/15 :

    the swiss say it differently.
but they donīt like their proud dialect imitated. so i donī t do it here.
    hope this helps.

OK. Thanks. I think I go for the German pronunciation. Its closer to my own language. But what do you say about French pronunciation. Will it be like Chamonix? without the X?

    pronounciation-wise, it doesnīt matter.
i canīt hear it out that swiss speak their french differently as they learn "high german" in school, too.

I feel I belong more to the "Sauerkraut und Eisbein" area :)

Well they talk French and they say it like you Germans. This will be nice showing the seller who insisted on "Victorinoo"......

    Thanks again!

Re: The right pronunciation of Victorinox?

I've always pronounced it phonetically, with the stress on the 2nd syllable. Glad to know it's kinda right, except for my California American accent
