what does sterile mean when talking about watches

I'm still pretty new to the site. I see people use that term occasionally. So what does it mean.

It means the watch has no branding, though it mostly focuses on a non-branded dial. You see it the most with "homage" watches that attempt to replicate or capture the essence of more expensive, established models but don't have any branding that pretends to be the real thing.

Like, this would be a sterile Rolex Milsub homage

Thank god for that... I thought it was the result of exposure to too much lume. The Orange Monster is back on my list! :-P

Indeed - you definitely want that your lume isn't radioactive.

Seriously though, apart from non-branded homage watches, there is a respected tradition among Fliegers (pilot watches, type A or B dial) to omit the branding from the front of the dial so it keeps a more pure military look. You'll find the branding on the rear.

Too many watches, not enough wrists.
