Accuracy of a AK Alias Kim Homme automatic mechanical watch

    Hi all!
I have just purchased an Alias Kim AK Homme automatic mechanical watch.
Now I see that it runs too fast by 2(!) minutes per 24 hours! I find that a lot of deviation!

Would the watch need a break in period? Could a jeweler possibly adjust it?
Is Alias Kim Homme known for this imprecission? Or are cheap Chinese mechanical watches just like that???

    Thanks!
    Bruno

They can be good and they can be bad. Depend on movement. Some can be regulated, some not.

Unfortunately, the least amount of time possible is spent assembling these watches and even less time spent on QC. If the watch is running and everything works; it is a good candidate for regulation.
For the record; it isn't just cheap Chinese watches that have these issues...check out the Seiko and Citizen forum and a search will turn up a few posts about new Japanese watches(costing a lot more) that also come running too fast.

Re: Accuracy of a AK Alias Kim Homme automatic mechanical watch

UPDATE: After seeing that the AK Homme consistently goes 2 minutes too fast per day I took it to a watch maker today.
He regulated it. I am looking forward to testing it in the next days, although he told me that the first 72 hours are not relevant to measure...why would he say that?
He also told me that these Chinese movements cannot be repaired here, ever. Why would that be???
    Thanks,
    Bruno

haha, oh no! Sucks to hear that there BrunoGeuth.
New watches often needs a bit of time to "settle down". 2 minutes does seem excessive and might point to other problems besides regulation.

I'm going to guess that Chinese watches in general just aren't very popular outside China and "genuine" parts are difficult to get. If it was poorly assembled from parts of questionable quality, it increases the risk of something going sideways with the repair. Plus, he probably knows what a Chinese watch like that costs, and runs the risk of customers just walking out and not paying on the repair even if he invests time and money on parts to complete the repair on a < $100 watch. Let's say he only charges you $10/hr in labor, it's pretty quick to make the repair go over the value of the watch that you don't really have an attachment to. Maybe try a small town or smaller independent guy who might take on this project.

how much did they charge to regulate it? i hope a watch expert can explain what it is and why there would be a wait time.

The watchmaker 'regulated' it 3 times and he charged nothing. He told me that these Chinese watches cannot be put on a machine to check the regulation so he did it by best guess.
Anyway the AK watch is now going 2 minutes too slow every day...
    Thanks,
    Bruno

That watch guy is full of hot air!
There is nothing about a Chinese mechanical watch that would make it not checkable with a timing machine. Are you sure this guy isn't just a jeweller?
