A Canadian "Thanksgiving Day" VCM "THANK YOU" thread : photo heavy modem murder...
I have a number of people to thank for some wonderful recent additions at the AMCHPR...
First, Ian/Defiant4Ever
Some months ago, WUS member Defiant4Ever (Ian) was kind enough to gift me a terrific classic HMT Pilot.
This week, I was astonished to receive these gift pieces for the AMCHPR, once again from Defiant4Ever/Ian...here's a group shot, then I'll get to individual descriptions...
The first is a Shanghai watch with an 1120 caseback and an SS1 movement inside, plus a modern and beautifully detailed recreation of an older 581/611 style dial.
The second appears to be a very classic "post-51/WuYi" Dongfeng from Tianjin, in good repair...
The third, a modern cased Shanghai with a 7120-108 caseback which is far too early for the quite modern (and quite welll executed) Shanghai dial and case. This watch is very much like a number of similar watches coming from Shanghai that (as far as I can tell) are legitimately and very affordably made of mixed old, new and NOS parts.
#4 has a 7120-808 case and a standard ZSH movement, but a not-common shaped gold-tone case:
...and the 5th piece is a very modern Shanghai turn on a classic European-styled dress watch with an auto movement that someone else will have to identify. It's way more gorgeous a dress-ertainment watch than my photos show...I think it's way cool b-).
Second, KungFuCowboy:
KungFuCowboy/Daniel offered me a piece I didn't have in exchange for a donation to a reputable charity (it'll be going to a microloan group of some sort...just deciding on the agency): an ST7 handwind. Daniel explained it wasn't in perfect running order (although all functions worked) but I said I would include the watch in a small group I will be taking to Mr. Cao for repair when I return to China in the spring next year.
But even before then, it's still good and truly beautiful (and not an easy piece to find):
Oilers Fan Another watch I'll be taking to Mr. Cao (and another Thank you!! I owe...to WUS member Oilers Fan gifted to me if I could get it fixed, and I happily will) is this wonder from Hangzhong. I think it's beautiful; I can't wait to hear it purr. It's a very solid, handsomely built heavy watch...
My (almost) last "Canadian Thanksgiving Day" shout out goes to Tingrin/Brent over at PMWF who visited me recently, travelling a few hundred KM for an overnight in scenic Peace River to see the AMCHPR collection, and to show me his own VCMs. He's visited China multiple times and well, we had lots to talk about, so we did ;-) ...He gifted the AMCHPR this lovely piece: a JuHua (Saskwatch has a great one, too):
...and my really last "Canadian Thansksgiving Day" THANKS today goes to everyone at all the forums and everywhere around the world who makes my involvement in the VCM and moden Chinese mechanical watch community so much, quite literally life-changing, an adventure. I'm really grateful. :-! Always.
