Just...WOW...another gift package to the AMCHPR, anonymous this time ...

There were three watches in the box that turned up in my post box. Two were cool Chinese mechanicals and one was an intriguing Swiss affordable. I don't really know what I could have done to deserve this kind of generosity, but I'm very grateful and, well, kinda humbled. When I got to WUS in late December 2008 I really had no idea how much my life was gonna change...or how wonderfully I'd be treated by this community. I'm just amazed.

To the sender: ...and to everybody here ...

A sharp Shanghai SB1H (one of my very favourite movements: solid, reliable, economical...a real people's movement) with a shimmery silver-grey face in the classic style of the vintage Seiko 5s or Orient 3-stars, with obvious nods to both. A straight up, well presented, not in-your-face...what my brother calls a "plain watch watch".







...and (a real surprise) a very cool example of a modern, and modern, Chinese fashion piece. Even though a B-style flieger is old-school (and often expensive), Tao delivers a a surprisingly affordable homage with a very nice sub-second twist. And the display back and movement are entertaining and attractive. A hard-core WIS will likely know straight off it's not a Stowa, Laco or Lange & Söhne...but folks on the street will know it's major cool and plain fun to look at, and they'll be right.







Again...it would be rude to be speechless, but adequate words fail me. Thank you.

anonymous? This is something very unusual, but IMO, 'Alberta Museum of Chinese Horology in Peace River (AMCH/PR) 中国手表博物馆，皮斯里弗，艾伯塔省' and its owner deserves receiving gifts.

A great gift that I am sure is well deserved. The dial of of the Shanghai shouts Orient 3-star to me, overall a very nice and well executed design IMO, congratulations.

Those are both really nice watches Ron, the Shanghai is new to me and it is very beautiful. The Tao, I have one and I really like it for the decorated movement, the winding and setting can be a bit....crunchy(?) at times but it keeps good time and gets a favourable reaction from the gallery.
I like the swatch too, kind of a Kinetic thing going on there.
Oh, and a big Bravo Zulu to the donor!

Frankly, I was a bit caught off guard when I landed (without any expectations) onto this page and I really have to say the shanghai watch really caught my attention. The Chinese words "shanghai" on the top of the dial blends well with the Grey background. It's looks modern, simple yet doesn't look "cheap"

We don't get many Chinese watch in Singapore... So maybe I really have to pay more attention to the chinese watch shops during my next trip to china.

I like the Tao, especially its decorated movement, but, perhaps not surprisingly, I like the SB1H even more. The silver textured dial and the cool indices look great with the updated (but still old-school) case.
