My first watch : Seagull 1963

Hello folks. Last night I received my brand new Seagull 1963 watch. It is absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't be happier. The first time I saw this watch (on this very forum) I knew I had to get one.

Mine's not a 100% true to the original as you will see below. But from what I've seen the only thing changed is the bezel, to accommodate a sapphire crystal. This to me, is a welcome addition because I plan to actually wear the watch on a regular basis and having a scratch resistant crystal seems like a good idea.

I don't know if I'm doing it right but I checked the accuracy against the stop watch on my phone and it was +4 seconds, 24hrs since I first wound it. I wore it all that time.

It cost me a bit more than I originally set out to pay (First time experience with UK customs/VAT charges!).

Anyhow, I've got a few pictures for you, if you like.......

    Cheers!

Congrats, very cool you got a sapphire xtal with that. Interesting.

You should consider getting a display back and show off that beautiful mov't.

We always like the pretty pictures!

Great photos and a beautiful watch! I think the sapphire crystal is a great idea, especially on a watch that's gonna be a dialy wearer.

Lovely pics! Customs are always a pain, both because of the cost and the delay they cause! I recently bought a watch for £22 and ended up paying another £11 (of which only £3 was the customs charge, the rest was the post office handling fee!)

I was told that this is a very recent edition of the watch ie a '1963' with the traditional dial AND the sapphire crystal. Yes I am considering a display back. Do you feel that it adds a lot to the overall thickness of the watch? Mine's already quite raised because of the bezel, the domed crystal and the NATO strap layer below the case back.

I had a similar experience. My parcel was shipped from the US through USPS. Had I known it would change hands to ParcelForce in the UK I would have insisted on a different carrier. I was aware of the potential VAT and customs charges but the £8 'handling fee' makes you think that the shipping cost originally quoted to you is misleading.

Hi, I can't feel any difference in height. But I see that the crystal is raised by 0.5mm above the caseback ring. Hardly noticeable.
You will enjoy seeing the mov't each time you remove from your wrists. ;)

    Wow!

Is that what all of them contain for movement?

I've had one for almost a year and haven't known it had such a goldmine innards. I mean, it's been a goldmine of accuracy, a goldmine in looks, apparently a goldmine in current pricing, but who knew it was such a wonder inside.

    Where are display backs obtained/installed?
