My VCMs – Part 14: Wannian Qing & Kongque

Thanks to the pictures others have posted at WUS, I was inspired to get two classics from Liaoning.

The first is a Wannian Qing.

It features the striped SL1A movement. Its code is 6906, which if I interpret correctly means it was manufactured in June 1969, making it one month older than Chascomm’s. I noticed the caseback is slightly different from his.

A look on Taobao revealed that Wannian Qings with movements dated 6906 or earlier had a caseback like mine, while later ones had casebacks like Chascomm’s, soviet’s and ozputera’s – but I did not see enough examples to conclude that this is what should be expected. I saw one other version with only the logo and 万年青 on an older Liaoning brand watch.

Made about 20 years later, the second is a Kongque day/night watch. I knew I would get one of these sooner or later. There a number of these watches in NOS condition available. Even with its slight imperfections, I chose this one because I like the dial colour.

There are some great photos of other colours in this thread.

    I agree entirely.

Almost like buying for a museum....

Thank you AlbertaTime and Chascomm. Your pictures do inspire me to get watches like yours.

I'll try not to get every watch you both have , but if I did it would be an amazing collection!
