My VCMs – Part 78: Beijing & Suzhou

Some VCMs have unusual second hands. For example this Beijing:

It’s an SB-5 model from the early to mid- 1970s.

    The 21600 bph SB-5 movement:

I bought this Suzhou because I like the textured dial. The extraordinary second hand didn’t show up well in the seller’s photo, and I didn’t notice it until I had the watch in hand.

The bracelet is too long. I think I would rather wear it loose than remove any links, however.

Under the balance: (the right half of C or G)A ZSZ.
soviet, hked, Torsten and 2 others like this.
The collection can be seen at my website: www.myvcms.com

Re: My VCMs – Part 78: Beijing & Suzhou

I am very new to Chinese mechanical watches so I don't know anything about how long production lasted for specific models or which models from the 70's may still be in production today, if any, (I am trying to learn) but I think both of these models are very attractive and would still sell well today in their 1970's incarnations.
In short, Congrats on the acquisition of a couple of very nice watches.

    Orient FEM75002D
    Blue Mako XL
    Orient FEM65008B
    Black Ray
    Orient CFD00001W
    Orient CFDAE001B

    Sea-Gull Wuyi LE
    Sea-Gull Dragon King Diver
    Beijing Zungu-6
    Seiko SKZ323J1 Stargate
    Dagaz Typhoon Custom (pre-ordered)

The Beijing with red arrow second hand is very, very cool but it's your spectacular Suzhou that impresses me. I've always thought that Suzhou dials were often among the very best in the VCM world and yours is a great example.
