    Overwound my Seagull 1963

I was in a hurry this morning, and I think I ended up over-winding my Seagull 1963. I noticed a few hours later that the watch wasn't running, and when I reset the second hand, it went back to 12 o'clock, but would not budge. When I try to rewind, it unwinds ever so slowly, which is what led me to believe I overwound.

I'm thinking that perhaps the mainspring was damaged, but I'm not sure.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong? Is the watch salvage-able, or is it beyond repair?

Hi it Sounds as if the click has broken or jumped out of position quite a common problem with the ST19 this happen to me and I had to send the watch away for repair. It is an easy fix once you get to the click but on the st19 to get to the dislodged click you need to remove the chronograph module this is not so easy. Send it back for repair .

Ahh, thanks. Do you know if this is something any watch repair shop could fix? There's one not too far from where I live, and I was hoping I could just take it down there if it's something simple.

I think the situation is a little more complicated, first the watch repair person should be familiar with the movement to diagnose the problem, second, he could find the right parts for your watch (mainspring and any other damaged part), replacing the eventually broken mainspring might require a disassembly of the movement, and if the chronograph module isn't correctly rebuilt you might have a sporadic problem (mostly the second hand won't reset to zero).

BALL Trainmaster Cleveland Express Chronometer - CASIO Illuminator 60 Laps Memory - CASIO G-shock GW-9200-1 (Riseman) - CASIO G-shock G-5600KG (Khaki Green) - Longines DolceVita L5.655.4.71.6 - PARNIS Portuguese Hommage Hand-wound (Seagull 3621) - SEAGULL M192S Mechanical Chronograph - TISSOT Seastar II Automatic Day/Date - YEMA Quartz Chronograph.

Actually, do we have cause to assume the mainspring is broken at all? The ST-19 is known for a click problem, could be just that.

Take the back off and tap the mainspring with a tweezer, it will unfreeze- works all the time with me and mine runs +-2seconds a day!

    Re: Overwound my Seagull 1963

To the OP: 'unwinds ever so slowly' means when you wind the crown it unwinds against your finger? That would indeed mean the click, which should prevent exactly that, has a problem.
To bmaben: Do you really mean 'mainspring' (wound with the crown; hidden in a barrel, close to the dial side of the movement) or hairspring (attached to the oscillating balance; visible from the back)? Touching/tapping the hairspring sounds dangerous, and it doesn't sound like the OP's balance is frozen. I'm not sure how you could 'tap the mainspring'; the click is near the mainspring. Do you mean reseat the dislodged click with tweezers?

If you look at the 4th picture in this thread Another inside look: the Seagull 1901 , the click is the blurry thing at 10 o'clock below the chronograph lever. You can also see some teeth of the mainspring barrel in that pic. Picture 6 shows it at 9 o'clock, after the chronograph machinery has been removed. So according to pics 2 to 4, maybe you could get at the click without dismantling the movement, and push it back down or unstick it, so that it reengages with the mainspring barrel.

    outcome ?

Curious, were you able to fix it yourself, or give it to a watchmaker? What's the outcome?

It's not very easy to over wind the mechanical watch, you may check if the big steel gear or small steel gear does not work,or it's screw is loose
