I am all out of them, but could go pick up another batch if there is interest.
Any pictures?

Hi, roughly how much can you do them for?
Cheers
Chris
I will contact the factory to see if i could pick up another batch this week. Will keep y'all updated.

What is the diameter of this watch?
Count me as most definitely interested.

Hope you will have good news for us Alfred!![]()
Hi Alf,
Is there any chance that you can check to see if the factory can sell the plastic bezels on its own? I have a few original 24J models which are crying out for a replacement bezel! :)

OK just checked, they have them but prices are now higher :( They raised the prices to about $200 as he did mention he would when i bought the first batch.
I will pick some up and update the ad in the classifieds over the weekend. Will check on the bezels when i visit.
Thanks Alf!
I will be glad to take some pictures...but due to my somewhat paranoid concerns about the radium paint, the watches are stored in a metal container, inside of my safety deposit box at the bank! (I know, it is kind of silly)...but I will gladly take a picture the next time I'm there.... :)
The bezel design on the re-issue appears to be derivative of the one found on the even more rare 29J original....but the diameter and overall construction of the bezel on the re-issued model seems similar enough to the 24J design, so I am thinking that it should fit.
The only way to know for sure is to test one, but I am not keen on dissecting my re-issued 22J model!

After yours and Joel's experiment (with the Vostok & Seiko 62MAS bezels) I would think there might be a suitable bezel replacement.
Shanghai military with a Vostok bezal
This got me to thinking. There were hundreds of brands of dive watches in the 1960's and many of them have a similar case & bezel design as the Seiko 6217. I would assume there would be a swappable bezel out there that could be gotten for a song.
I know this is a little off topic for the discussion of replacing an original Shanghai 24J bezel with re-issued 22J bezel. But it is worth mentioning that the original 24J bezel design appears to be "standard". Whatever that means!
BTW, I've asked on a few different Seiko forums if anyone knew about other bezels that would fit the Seiko 6217 (and therefore the Shanghai 24J). Even though I specifically explained what I wanted to do (find a bezel replacement for the Shanghai 24J) everyone still wanted to know why I wanted to ruin an icon by replacing the bezel of a 62MAS!![]()
cheers,
gigfy
