    Hello,
I did the exact thing about a year ago, for the same reason. I now use a Shick 3 bladed number.

Wow.... Portoauto, you must have a beard like barb-wire.

I'm happy with Schick too. I've been using the Titanium Quattro for the past couple of years after switching over from the Gillette Mach 3... far superior in my opinion. I might have to give the Hydro 5 a try.

    Re: Bye Bye Gillette..

I gave up on the cartridge razors 5 years ago and started using a Merkur and double edge blades. It's been a love/hate experience. I love the prices of the DE blades (10 cents per blade and each one lasts for a week) and the fact that I have found an inexpensive alternative to the overpriced Gilette blades. However, I find that I nick myself more often and the shave isn't as close. This became very apparent last week when I used one of the new Gillette Fusion 5 blade gizmos that I got for free. I wasn't expecting much, but I got a fantastic shave with it.....almost so good that I'm now 2nd guessing my decision to buy 500 DE blades last month (that's 10 years worth of blades :) )

I'm going to try some of the no-name blades they sell at stores that fit the Sensor and Mach 3 handles I have. That might be a good compromise as the prices are pretty reasonable.

How much are you guys paying for those Schick cartridges vs the price of the Gillette ones?

    You could always...

What I do is shave first quickly with an electric razor (I only shave 2x per week and just rock a shadow) to knock the big stuff back. Then I used a 3 blade razor to go behind it. I might go through 4-5 blades a year this way.

That was freaking hilarious! I thought it was a put-on, until I went to the website (which was just as funny). Great concept.

LOL I use the cheapest twin blade Wilkinson Sword disposables. They cost about 25 cents apiece and last me for about 6 weeks at least. They do a great job.

    In Vancouver I had been paying around $49.99 + tax for a 16 pack of Gillette Fusion at Costco (49.99 * 1.13 / 16 = $3.53 per blade). I managed to find Schick Hydro 5 blades at London Drugs for $9.99 + tax for a 4 pack ($9.99 * 1.13 / 4 = $2.82 per blade).

However I found that the Schick blades are lasting me about 3 times as long. So in fact Gillette was costing me $3.53/week, while Schick is now costing me $0.94/week.

    Kindest Regards,

Thanks for the information. I have been using the fusion blades. For me they last around 1 month. I shave every second day and I do this while in the shower.

Lately, I have come to the conclusion that I should change my blade twice a month but the cost of the fusion blades is getting ridiculous. I was looking for a cheaper alternative when I came across your post.

Whatever alternative I choose it will need to be multi blade and must have the trimmer, so I can get those tricky hairs on the upper lip just below the nose.

    Great thread topic!
