    Samsung Galaxy S3

I'm very tempted to upgrade to this, but I don't know whether the size will be a bit too big compared to the iPhone 3GS which I currently have. The technical spec is obviously much better that the 3GS, but I don't know whether to wait to see what Apple have to offer when they release the iPhone 5. I know Apple will charge over the odds for their new phone even when you buy it on a contract, but will it be worth paying a premium to get a phone that will still fall short of the competition with regards to technical specifications? The one thing I love about the iPhone is how smoothly it performs no matter what you are doing. I just don't know whether Android will still be a bit glitchy when responding to tapping and finger swipes.

Does anyone else have views or opinions on the new Galaxy S3 or Android over the iPhone?
    Cheers,
    Barry

I went from an iphone to a galaxy S2 skyrocket. I like it a lot better than the iphone. You have a lot more ways to configure and customize. Apps crash a bit more but other than that I think it's great.

I have a droid tablet too and basically if you want to tweak and mess around get a droid phone. If you don't want to deal with anything and just want everything to work however the default is then keep the iphone.

Also just a heads up if you do switch to an android phone or anything other than an iphone TURN OFF IMESSAGE BEFORE YOUR IPHONE SIM IS DEACTIVATED. Otherwise you will be stuck with it and every iphone in the world will try to send you and imessage first resulting in a delay with text message. Found this out the hard way and Apple doesn't tell you this anywhere. I'm convinced they do this to make it more difficult to switch. I will never be buying another Apple product.

My phone before the iPhone was the HTC Touch HD, and it's tiny quirks gradually became really annoying. I know that didn't use Android, but my friend has the Dell Streak and it sometimes doesn't respond first time, whereas the iPhone does. I guess I'm kind of hoping that the quad core in the S3 will stop this, or at least reduce it by quite a bit.

I would quite like to tweak things with Android, but whether that's enough to keep me interested for the length of the contract I don't know.

Thanks for the heads up about the imessage. I'll be keeping my number, but I suppose that won't matter if I change from the iPhone. Let's hope I remember to turn it off.
    Cheers,
    Barry

I have the galaxy S2. I am a big apple computer fan, and I still like the galaxy better. It is a little bigger than an iPhone 4S, but that means the screen is a little bigger and that's not a bad thing. I have not seen the S3 yet...

cavallino sums it up rather well: the Android platform gives the user more options than iOS. This, of course, comes with more necessary trial and error or "ownership" of the device and its operation. If you want a device that just works but doesn't allow for much customization when you stumble upon a feature you'd like to tweak, get an iPhone. If you're OK doing some tinkering and searching out options, get an Android phone. Truthfully this is a tough question to answer as each person's needs and expectations is different.

Can an Android device operate smoothly and with great responsiveness (aka: compete with the iPhone) - sure! Especially the S3 your considering: with a next gen processor and its *removeable* 2100 mAh battery, all the reviews are stacking up for this to be a great device, hardware-wise. And the display is arguably better and I *think* has a greater pixel density than the iPhone, although I'm not certain.

As for the size, go into any ATT or other carrier's store and mess around with an S2, HTC One X, and Galaxy Note as I think the S3 is slightly larger than the former and considerably smaller than the latter. Personally, I could never return to a sub-4" screen bit think the gargantuan Note is just too big.

All this means little if the device doesn't work for your needs! Can't speak for other carriers but ATT has a 30 return policy on new devices. You can take it home and kick the tires - if you don't like it, return it and wait out the iPhone 5!

    Good luck!

    Re: Samsung Galaxy S3

I have a friend that works in one of the local telecoms, he's a sales enterprise manager and he has had or handled pretty much every phone on the market, even pre-production samples. Of the latest Galaxy S what he had to say was that they are better than the iPhone. However the iPhone still has better usability. I'm committed to the apple OS as I use an iPad, and a macbook as well as an iPhone, so I don't plan on changing, but if I did, I'd try a Galaxy S. The screen size is what attracts me the most. I even considered a Galaxy note...

I am a huge blackberry fan and I have used everything from windows based HTCs to iPhones and I always go back to the blackberry. If I only had to choose between the iPhone and the Sammy it is the Galaxy hands down.
