    The Burning Plain

And then there was "The Burning Plain". Wow, I loved it. This sleeper of a film kept me up late to finish.
It stars Charlize Theron, Kim Bassinger and John Corbet.

The story is woven together with four sub-plots, from different time periods. All come together in the end to complete the plot.

I give it an A+...highly recommend it. I'm not sure why this wasn't in the theaters or if it was why it wasn't a smashing success.

Oh yeah, the same writer/director of 21grams wrote and directed this film. That should tell you something.

    I liked this movie too!

Just watched "Death Race" on HBO. Not terribly great, but entertaining.

    I rate it a B+.

Watched "Date Night" tonight. Entertaining and funny, but not hilarious. I was hoping for more, actually.

I do enjoy watching Tina Fey, though. I rate this movie a B+.

    I saw Inception last night.
I did not like it, despite some good actors.
The story was just incredibly confusing, and frankly speaking, thin.

It reminded me of Matrix. Which was much, much better.

I watched "The ...........". It was ok and some good parts but the last half hour was a big action scene that just went on WAY TOO long. Even my husband said that it was too long, and he loves action movies. The dissappointing part about the action scenes are that they are all really hard to see which actors were winning the fight.

    I would give this movie a C.

I completely agree with you Janne. I saw this movie about 2 weeks ago and was dissappointed as well. Most of my friends disagree with me and absolutely loved the movie. I'm glad someone else had the same view as me.

    Re: Weekly Movie Review II

My apologies in advance for these OT comments, but this seemed like the best place to make them, short of starting a new thread.

I'm a little ticked-off about the upcoming Cohen Brothers remake of the classic western "True Grit" (which was made from the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel of the same name by Charles Portis). "Remake", "Re-Do", "Re-Image"... whatever. Just goes to show that Hollywood has run out of original ideas. No need to have a 2010 version of "True Grit". The 1969 version was fine as is. If everyone is excited about this just because "its the Cohen Brothers", then lets all wet our pants in anticipation of the Scorsese version in 2011, the George Lucas version in 2012, the Steven Speilberg version in 2013, and... (fill-in your favorite director, here). You get the drift...

BTW - the actress playing the "new" Mattie Ross is way too cute - and in the photo just released, she's tracking Ned Pepper while wearing a stunning shade of pink lipstick (standard issue for the trail, right?). A "cutie" and "lipstick" is the Cohen's idea of staying close to the Portis novel? Don't think so... Do we need someone to paint another Mona Lisa?

I've been watching a lot of foreign movies lately, just to see some original ideas... but heck-dangit, Hollywood is "Remaking" them, too, as fast as they can ("Let The Right One In", "Girl With The Dragon Tatoo", et.al.). Sad indeed.

    Re: Weekly Movie Review II

I was actually looking forward to the True Grit remake, Brian. I'm dating myself here, but I originally watched it in the theater when it first came out. I was five or six and my mom said I screamed so loudly at the rattlesnake scene that they had to leave. A pretty neat trick since we were at the drive in.

John Wayne was born to play in that movie. He was a poor actor but an awesome performer. He played himself in every single movie he did and it just so happened that he WAS Rooster so it worked out perfectly.

Glenn Campbell was absolutely horrible, of course. He made up for it with the theme song though, which is on my iPod, believe it or not.
