    Re: Weekly Movie Review II

    Watched The Expandables last night.

As I had suspected before, this is purely entertaining film. Lots of explosive, fightings, car romping, careless gunshot, etc. Which make this film is a very classic American film, which I like.

This is very 'Sylvester Stallone' movie, we can see it from screenplay, story line that is so thick with heroism and machismo.

The characters are mostly fun and no complicated mind or purpose. If you folks going to watch it, don't bring your underage kids to watch, lots of brutal fighting and shooting. And prepare to laugh because there's quite many jokings in this film.

The rating, I'm gonna give it B.

"50 Dead Men Walking"-set in violent 1980-1990's Ireland, is about an IRA informant.
I found the film very dramatic, it pulled me in and pulled hard.
Ben Kingsley is the most recognizable character to me.
    I'll give it an a-/B+

Brick sounded very intriguing, so I added it to my queue. Thanks for the recommendation.

"Brick" (2005) a modern film noir murder mystery set in a SoCal high school. as a film noir buff i was prepared for the worst, but it was great.

Thanks for the recommendation on Brick. I really enjoyed it. It was pretty fresh-some of the dialogue reminded me of the 1996-ish Romeo and Juliet w/ Leonardo Dicaprio and Clare Danes

Based on the recommendations here, I watched "Brick" and "The Burning Plain" this weekend. Both good movies.

"Brick" is a film noir movie set at a high school in California. Nice plot that keeps you guessing throughout (don't you just hate it when you figure out movie withing the first 15 mins?).
Stayed true to the film noir style throughout, but a couple of scenes left me wondering if the director stopped momentarily to poke fun at this style of film-making. Loved the dialogue, too. Give it an "A-"

    The Trailer:YouTube - Brick Trailer

"The Burning Bed" was one of those mystery/suspense movies with two story lines going at once that merge later in the movie. Good acting all around by the cast - some known, most unknown. Give it a "B+".

    The Trailer:YouTube - The Burning Plain - Official Trailer #1 (2009)

Note: Charlez Theron seems to be making a career out of playing disturbed/troubled women. She does a great job with these roles. Can't wait to see more of her. ;)

    Re: Weekly Movie Review II

    finally saw "The ...........".

it surpassed my expectations. they made it worse than i thought possible. when Steve Austin has the greatest "screen presence", you know there is something wrong.

Stallone/Rourke/Lundgren all behave like stroke victims.

Li/Statham are wasted and kept down by wooden directing.

what should have been -epic- fight scenes, Couture/Austin, were made unpalatable by the gratuitous use of slash cuts and "shaky cam".

i wasn't hoping for a "good" movie, but this was truly less than the sum of it's parts and was not even a decent "blow stuff up and kick ass" movie.

    so sad.....

I watched a documentray of sorts, called "One Six Right: The Romance of Flying".
Beautiful footage and a great story on general aviation and the VanNuys airport.

Yesterday, I saw Charlotte Gray. Not as good as the book (normal) but well worth seeing. Superb actors, well researched, not many obvious misstakes.

    Today, I saw Passchendaele.
Superb. Excellent acting, realistic without falling into the "slo-mo bloodspraying" trap.
