Currently reading 'Sandstorm' by James Rollins which is silly but fun (although it does go on a bit) and 'Sharp's Eagle' by Bernard Cornwell which is also very enjoyable.
Was recently on a bit of a horror kick (reliving my teenage reading obsessions) and read 'The Rats' by James Herbert (good nasty fun) and 'Hybrid' by Shaun Hutson (interesting in some ways but ultimately disappointing).

"Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much... the wheel, New York, wars, and so on, whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely the dolphins believed themselves to be more intelligent than man for precisely the same reasons."

Working my way through the early Dirk Pitt novels - very hokey and dumb but great fun (and a fair few watch references).

I have just finishe the latest one by Mr Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol.

A recommendation: Buy and read something else. Waste of time.
    Incredibly predicable, ridiculous end.
I did enjoy his previous one, but this one? The paper in the Hard copy is even too glossy to be used as Toilet paper!

I just do not care for Dan Brown. People whose literary opinions I respect have told me that his storytelling is excellent and worth the clumsy prose, but I've never gotten off the first page due to the poor quality of the writing.
