The Sentry - Robert Crais
It’s a routine Southern California day when former cop and sometime mercenary Joe Pike intervenes to break up the gang shakedown of a sandwich shop. The shop is run by Dru Rayne and her uncle, Wilson, two refugees from Katrina starting a new life. The chemistry between Pike and Dru is immediate, prompting him to keep an eye on the store; the gang leader, Venice Trece, will surely return to deliver revenge. But as Pike and his sidekick, private detective Elvis Cole, soon learn, nothing about Dru and Wilson adds up. Even as he’s negotiating a truce with the duplicitous leader of the gang, Pike learns that Dru is likely not the innocent she seems. --Wes Lukowsky

Reading The Castle by Franz Kafka. It's not bad but I definitely liked The Trial and The Metamorphosis more.

I'm reading, "Landscape of Transformations: Architecture and Birmingham, Alabama", by Dr. Michael Fazio. Its a history of Birmingham, Alabama through its architecture, buildings, neighborhoods, etc. Very interesting, especially if you like old buildings and houses, like I do.

Massive bump because we shouldn't let this thread die.
My recents:
'Those in Peril' by Wilbur Smith. Dumb but fun. Like a boys own adventure written by a pornographer.
'Let the Right One In' by John Ajvide Linqvist. Deeply disturbing at times but never less than interesting, an 80s set vampire novel that definitely kept be gripped.
'The Eagle of the Ninth' by Rosemary Sutcliff. Fantastically exciting and occasionally moving tale of a Roman soldier searching for the lost mascot of his father's legion.
'Hard Landing' by Stephen Leather. Unoriginal but gripping and satisfying thriller about an cop undercover in prison.

No, this thread should not die.
I finished "Patton" by Carlo D'Este a couple of weeks ago, then read a couple of rubbish books, then I started a book called Anglo-Saxon Archaeology.
To relax the grey cells I am also reading a book by James Herriot. For you otside UK, he (James Wight real name) was a Veterinary Surgeon in the 30's and onwards. Really nice books, made into a fantastic TV series in the -70's.
Speed by William Burroughs Jr.
