Re: When and where were you at your happiest point in your life?

First year of marriage :). I have been married for 13 years to my soul mate. However, that first year was sheer bliss. No jobs (got married at 20 - both in college) and just had a smashing good time. We lived on a chunk of land, out in the country in Arkansas, that was just down the road from his parents place. My husband and I built a small cottage to live on and his dad financed it. No rent, hardly any bills.

My family was close too. We were young, in "puppy" love, with our rose colored glasses still pushed up on the bridge of our nose. It was a magical time before there were any worries. However, this year ranks high as well ;).

Generally I'd say right now: in my second year of a very happy marriage, doing well at my job, no kids, living in the best place in the UK. I AM still working of course though so I can't but mention that I had a pretty fantastic 5 months just travelling the world aged 18 - Peru, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Thailand. No wifey then though...

I would have to say my Semester abroad in College. I got to spend 5 terrific months in London with a group who has since become some of my best friends. We traveled, we drank, we laughed and just enjoyed every day as it came. No stress, very little class or work, and plenty of energy. There isn't a single memory from that time that I don't cherish.

My closest friends still lived in NYC back then. None were married. Just a group of single guys having a rip-roaring good time over the weekend. It was fantastic! But friends get married and move away. Just to be expected. The job turned to garbage. One of my supervisors was hooked on cocaine. We all knew it. One day, he was nearly passing out at his desk. Goes to the bathroom. Comes back out. Dead middle of Winter. He goes outside without his coat, and then proceeds to clean off the windshields of everyones' cars . . . with his bare hands. Hour later he comes back to his desk and passes out. Rest of the managers took him to the hospital. Found out that several of my other co-workers and managers were scumbags, for different reasons. In the end, one of the co-owners sued the other one. The one doing the suing was a steroid injecting freak who actually used to openly brag about getting illegal, horse steroids from Europe; and using them. It was a great job in the beginning though.

Ironically, typical corporate America and college.

Getting older is a gift. A precious one. And I enjoy the hell out of it every single day.

It must be a soul-killing experience. Survival of the fittest...

And to the topic: happiest period of my life was in the college. We had approx. 20 squaremeters for four of us. We hadn't got laptops or even a TV in the room for a year but we kept ourselves entertained for three hilarious years. I met some true friends there.

Overall I think that now is the happiest point in my life -- I know myself better than ever and am lucky enough to have the means and freedom to live the life I choose.

However looking back, I think the most enjoyable experience was back-paking around Europe with a friend when I was not long out of school -- a bit of a rite of passage for young Aussies -- it broadened my horizons and opened my eyes to different cultures.
