I hate cruises, but I have frinds that enjoy them, and generally lean toward the Royal Caribbean Oasis Class for the same reasons you are asking about. They are in my age group (early/mid 30s) and say they generally have lots of similar aged people to party with. They also advise that at the right time, Carnival can be basically a floating meat market, if that's your thing.

I like being on the water and visiting the islands. And duty free watch shops, right?

Lots of home baseball games with the Nats, a week or two at the Delaware seashore and another cruise, possibly end of season to Alaska.

    Harbor Island, South Carolina.

Will be my first real vacation in a very long time. I can't wait.

I might have to change destinations to Lisbon then!

Which beaches do you go to in Delaware? Not Dewey, I hope.

Cruises are nice for the all-inclusive aspect. I like being on the water too. As long as everything stays upright, it should be a good time.

Bethany a lot followed by Fenwick and Lewes. Rehoboth is ok when it's not mid-summer. Dewey is for a much younger and crazier crowd.

BTW we have enjoyed Princess cruises a lot. The crowd tends to be early 30's through mid 60's and pretty active. There is lots to do well past 8 and the open seting in the 2 formal dining rooms works out very well.

Only thing about cruises I don't like is that they confiscate pretty much everything when you come on-board. I don't like being without my Victorinox Swiss Army knife, or other pieces of gear that make life easier on a daily basis; and come in very handy during an emergency.

Re: Where's your next vacation destination?

No vacation planned for this summer but since a couple of years, I've had this very deep curiosity and desire to visit the "land of last unknown" aka Papua New Guinea. I think it's about time I realize this but some serious planning needs to be done. Whenever I read or look at pictures, I get all excited but also a bit scared considering the several active volcanoes, the very common earthquakes, severe rainstorms, travel health and crime.

Apart from those details, this would be for me the ultimate adventure in the last frontier, filled with so many mysteries and an undeniable jurassic feel. This might be a long shot but anyone ever been there? In recent years? I am giving myself a good year and a half / two full years of serious planning and budgeting before jumping in the adventure.

I will likely be alone on this as my family is pretty much freaked out by the idea and close friends are not really in a position to do such thing, might change though, and I would certainly prefer to have a partner with me, for security reasons but also because it's really nice when you can share a moment, an emotion, a landscape and talk about it years after.
